Cheap pump action

Was in a local shop today and saw a remmy 3 shot pump @ £250 and it got me thinking I'd like to have one in the cabinet, well, just to have one really.

Be a laugh trying to hit simo pairs of clays with it etc.

So what would you recommend? £250 is about top whack for something that won't get a lot of use...

I've got a Remmie 870, Pin, and I'd recommend that you track one of those down - it is a great bit of kit. A pump-action is such an enjoyable gun to use. I thought about getting a spare multi-choke barrel for mine, and having the existing fixed-choke barrel converted by Hushpower. It's a good pigeon/wildfowling gun, and it shrugs off the abuse that would cripple an O/U or SBS.

I'm sure someone will recommend a Benelli Nova, but personally I prefer the back-to-basics look of the Remmie. Incidentally, there's a very positive review of the military-spec Mossberg 590 pump-action on the (slightly disturbing) Guns 'N' Ammo website: http://www.gunsandammomag.com/long_guns/mossir_033007/

A mate of mine just bought a brand new Escort 3 shot pump for £275. Comes with the 5 chokes, and believe it or not is actually quite well finished.

Interestingly enough this is also heavy, short and all-black. :good:

He has cycled a good few shells through it with no problems, the only issue is the rather short stock.

For £275 new I don't think its a bad buy.

Cheers

Duster

you may quaff Pin, as Cat will atest to, many a comp has been won with a pump, my old mentor won his first two canadian championships in int'l skeet with a model 12 winny, at 70 i watched in awe as he blotted a pair at station 4 telling anyone who'd listen "sorry im a little slower these days" :good::lol:

i keep forgetting that the manual bit "pump you muppet, pump":lol: thank god for vending machines

Ive had a Mossy pump since before they made the three shot rule and lucky old me had it put on my cert so its as god intended it to be, 8 shots and a lot of killing power in a flock of woodies.

Its all black a 500 I think and has a c-lect variable choke so I can change the choke just by twisting, it strips down in seconds and never jammed or missfired they are in my opinion the best workhorse available, saves reloading when your hands are frozen, must have shot thousands of cartridges through it, my favourite decoying gun, has put up with alot of abuse. It still looks and performs well, excellent value for money.

Baldrick, you worry me. I just hope you aren't a registered member of either that website or Soldier of Fortune, otherwise the Thought Police will be coming for you with black sacks!

Mind you, that Mossberg does look very tidy... Turning up with one of those at my clay ground would put the fear of god into people. It might be worth trying, just once!

I've got a winchester 1200 ,I bought it second hand for £150 about two months ago,and its soooo much fun to use! and I havent had a bit of bother with it(put about 1000 carts through it)

since i've had it ,the Berreta and Miroku have stayed in the locker .

it,s a multi choke ,but I only have a half choke tube for it,

best score I've had with it is 66x75 on Sporting ,and that was the best score put in all week!

I've not shot a straight round of Skeet with it,but have had a few 24s and have not shot under 22.

I just love taking it round the clay ground ,and seeing peoples reactions when i pull it out the slip!:lol:

most cant resist asking for a go on it,and i'm more than pleased to let them try it

I'm shooting a 100 bird open this weekend and i'll be using the Pump, ok I know I wont win it,but I would'nt win it with any of my other guns,

I can tell you this though,I wont be last ,and I will be having fun ,and thats what we shoot for is'nt it ?

TO ENJOY OURSELFS

Get a pump action Pin ,they are bl---y good fun!!!!!!!! :good:

All the best Mick.

Bennelli Nova Pin, you can pump on the shoulder and pairs ain't a problem providing you point in the general direction :good::lol::lol:

Seriously though, the gun is indestructable, I should know as I have abused it beyond reasonable doubt. The only downside is it has no shims to adjust to the individual shooter, the importers are useless regarding spares, and people will give you a wide berth at the claygrounds

I'm going back after unsuccessfully persuading someone else I shot with a lot to buy it, I think I might have to get the cheque book out

You know you want it mate, nice looking gun as well, great fun, fit you like a glove, great in a hide :good:

As for trying to persuade me you've got no chance, I think your problems gonna be persuading the mrs, although you could try mentioning the potential deal you might get from Bob on the baulk purchase of the Remmy, 17HMR, & the AArms xtra FAC 410 :lol:

Exactly SS has got it right! Tell your missus that because of the bulk buy you are basically getting the pump action for free/£20 so it would be stupid not to take it!
