roadkill
This was posted on a facebook shooting page, i asked if i could share as a warning to other shooters This is the post followed by the pics Well guys this is a heads up on a very serious note !! We was out last night driving from field to field using the .22 with my mates .223 in the case on the back seat and all of a sudden was a huge bang and my ears was ringing and my mate looks at me white as a sheet and starts shouting I been shot I been shot !! I'm looking at him in disbelief .. next thing I know is he's out the truck ripping his jacket and clothes off still shouting I been shot... he asks me to look and I confirm there's no blood but a bloody big red mark .. well this is where it becomes a learning curve with him .. we start trying to work out was as happened and start looking through his clothes etc and his best hunting jacket has a hole on the inside and burn marks , lucky he had a very thick hoodie on and a couple shirts as he had his spare .223 rounds in his pocket and had put his new lithium battery pack for his thermal in the same pocket!!! A bullet must have arc'd on the terminals which detonated it !! Jesus the boy was lucky .. what a mess it made of the brass case and the battery pack and his clothes !! Lesson learnt for every one not to carry batteries with live ammo !!Also it was enough bang next to his .22 with a photon on it to move the zero too.. so after a couple miss's we rezero'd and finished the fields .... My computer is on a go slow so will post pics off my phone in the next few minutes

The Mighty Prawn
Lithium batts are evil at the best of times - should always tape the contacts in a pocket to prevent shorting

That's some serious protection for your batteries there haha love the single battery holder! It was 30 odd years ago when I left school and went to work in a garage , he was changing a battery and somehow he managed to either short the battery terminals or earth the spanner to the body through his wedding ring , it was all over in a couple of seconds. I was just a kid straight out of school , I wasnt involved in it but it horrified me , ive had a very healthy respect ,fear, of batteries ever since. bazzab
I used to work on heavy plant. We had a 3 or 4 year old Case wheel loader come back off hire to be sold. It sat on our steam cleaning bay and batteries had gone flat over night. Cleaner asked me change batteries for him. So I rocked up with 2 fully charged jobbies. Connected first up... connected the 2nd walked away no more than 10 feet and... BOOM.... One of them exploded. Turned out rats had chewed the wiring on the waste site it was on and they earthed out. If I'd have stood there gas bagging etc I'd have ended up.... well the mind boggles. The joys of 24v.... clakk
Seen it a few times in the army ,the batteries are linked together on the lorries and a couple of "clumsy" mechanics undid the cable nuts and the spanner contacted + and - and bang woosh .Acid washed people a funny shade of off white .
