12gauge82
I know a few guys who've had them and the timing belts gone on them before the service interval, been great other than that though.
bostonmick
There are good and bad in all makes.if you know this person you should know how the truck has treated him.i had a 59 plate Ranger and it was I have to say the worst vehicle I have ever owned.even more costly than the td5 disco I bought my daughter and that is saying something. But you can only go by experience.

Adge Cutler
My Lad has just bought a 54 plate with 80k on the clock.. Like all cars service history and regular scheduled maintenance is everything. The specialist 4 x 4 dealer we bought it from ( 40 years in the business ) told us that of all the utility 4x4's the L200 is top of the list for reliability and the Ranger second by not very much, because there's not that much can go wrong with them and what does is easily and inexpensively fixed. Japanese reliability at its best ( Mazda )
johnnytheboy
Take your dealer don't service or sell,hi-luxes then
Adge Cutler
Take your dealer don't service or sell,hi-luxes then Yep and surfs...they are up there too...problem is when they do go wrong parts can be expensive apparently particularly engine management controls and electrical parts.. He had a nice 06 plate Toyota with only 55k but the service history showed it was plagued with electrical problems so he was loathed to sell it to me. ( we have been friends for over 50 years )
tonker
Thanks for your replies up till now. The lad has had it from new, looked after it well and serviced it at the proper mileage, He's used it for towing a mini digger to work. The only thing he knows that is wrong with it is a stone chip on the bonnet. It's done 55k mileage. He will put an mot on it, and the last job he did for me, it looked as clean as a whistle, I thought I'd replace my disco with it as it looks like they can tow a bit. I will be able to make a bench on the back to shoot from with a couple of mates I shoot with.

labstaff
I have an 08 plate ranger and it's good. The only issue I have had is the prop shaft broke at about 80k miles. £800 to have repaired.
roadkill
I love my ranger and would never be without it, likes fuel but don't they all. Also funny how you mentioned the timing belt as only changed mine last week for a grand total of £120 so peace of mind
db135
Think I would have tried Thorntons the big 4x4 specialist breakers for a prop sure they'd have a good second hand one
Sussex gardener
I had a 07 double cab, nothing but trouble, must of been a Friday afternoon build. 4x4 system was not good, electric freewheel hubs, and the crankshaft went at 80k despite meticulous service history. I know a lot of people rate them though, I think that like all cars you have good and bad'uns.
