Wingman
Hi all Bought a lovely AYA no3 from Wabbitbosher and was just wondering how I can tell if the barrels are chrome lined? It's an early 80's model .. Any ideas?

JohnfromUK
I wasn't aware that any AyAs had chrome lined barrels, but clearly some do from Ditchman's post above (I also wasn't aware that they used monoblock as they use chopper lump barrels on their s/s guns). No1 and possibly Model 56 and Senior use/used a higher grade Chrome Nickel steel, but I'm not aware that any of the s/s guns have chrome lined barrels. Happy to be corrected if wrong! I was hoping someone would make this statement! I understood aya only used chrome nickel steel on their better guns, yoemans, no3, 4 and 2 didn't. Interestingly laurona used Chrome steel on many if not all of their barrels
JohnfromUK
I know that the No 1 (and presumably delux and round variants) use the 'better' steel - and indeed AyAs own web pages confirm this. I presume the 'Imperial' does as well as this seems to be a better finished No 1. I believe it enables the barrels to be a little thinner walled and so lighter - for faster handling, but if that is the case, its pretty marginal as to me No 1 and No 2 both have similarly (good) handling. I have read that it was used on No 56, but this isn't stated as such on AyA's site. My view is that the No 56 is a heavier and more robust (heavy duty) gun all round and the need for lighter barrels may not arise ...... but I don't know the actual answer. The Senior is no longer made - and was a somewhat different animal all round. I have a Senior, but don't know what steel the barrels are made from, but since it was (by far) the most expensive model in the range when it was made, I assume it was the more expensive steel (chrome nickel).
