R6demon
Hi guys I have been offered an Investarm O/U 12G folding SG for around £150 What are your thoughts? This would be used as a rough gun and for clays. It's 3/4 and 1/2 choke I've not come across them before but it's a nice short LOP at 14in on 29in barrels Thoughts please?? TIGHTCHOKE
Not bad for that price without seeing it. BUT, I would strongly suggest you contact Wabbitbosher who is in Kettering and has the most marvellous collection of very reasonably priced shotguns which would give you far more choice. R6demon
I'm already in contact with Mick, we bought my wife's gun from him I thought for the money that this may be a good buy and something different?? I am hoping to find something lightweight ideally?
fortune
I bought a 28b Investarm real cheap at an auction. Well it was like brand new and it had a lot of cartridges and accessories with it for not a lot. >> The gun is of a solid construction. I wouldn't say it was light It is a bit basic but ok. It shoots straight and ok. The things that are a bit off are. >>> To cock the action the top lever does it, so when you open the action you have to press the top lever much further to cock it. There is a fair amount of pressure force required to do this. When you open the gun it sort of flops right open as it would to fold up on its self and it only extracts both of the cartridges rather than throwing the fired case out, so you have to remove the one that was fired. Without getting it out to look at, (See below PS). I don’t think that there is a barrel selector and it just fires the barrels in an order regardless of choke considerations. The bottom line is that it is a solid, very basic gun that would be ok for limited rugged use. It would be ok for a walk about gun but not on a driven shoot. It isn’t a first line choice. On the other hand if you can hit stuff with it, it would be better than a gun that you cant hit a barn door with no matter how much it cost. PS Curiosity got the better and I went and got it out to have a look. As i thought the safety is just that. There is no selector and it just fires bottom barrel first then top, every time in that order. I don’t know without taking the fore end off what the chokes are so you don’t worry about choke you just shoot the thing. When you open the gun the top lever is almost out at right angles and stays there until the barrels are closed. The barrels have to be slapped shut hard to engage the barrel lock and set the top lever. Its solid you wont wear it out. Its basic but several people have had a go with it and it does knock stuff down ok. It’s a gun. Edited February 6, 2017 by fortune
Gordon R
Investarm make solid budget guns, but also make the Salvinelli range, which start around the £3.4k mark. Edited February 6, 2017 by Gordon R
Fatcatsplat
Save your money for something a little nicer - As said, the barrel lock is pants and there are far better built and prettier guns out there for very little money. 69chris
we have one in 20g, it was the mrs's 1st gun and whilst it lacks in certain departments its never, imo, failed to do anything a gun costing 10x more could do, plus to me its just a tool and my garden spade doesn't have a walnut handle or deep blued metalwork but it still digs great holes
fortune
Investarm make solid budget guns, but also make the Salvinelli range, which start around the £3.4 mark. £3.40p, Blimey that's even less than I paid for the one that I bought at the auction. . I think that the decimal point slipped a bit
Gordon R
Ouch. PS - that should be £3.40 - no "p" on the end. Edited February 6, 2017 by Gordon R
Wingman
I had one once in 20b it was ok, think I paid around the 100 pound mark for it. It certainly aint no Perazzi but never let me down in the few years I had it and accounted for many a pigeon and rabbit. There not bad guns, basic but reliable
Blackpowder
Think before buying ANY folding shotgun for walked up shooting. As already mentioned they are inclined to fold over completely making an awkward carry when open. Blackpowder
R6demon
Guys thank you very much for the detailed feedback. I think I will pass on this for now and have a look at the show at the weekend as having looked on the web, it's not the 'bargain' I first thought. What is the "point" of a folding gun normally? Poaching?
Wingman
Allegedly yes but clearly nobody on here would subscribe to that! Actually it's a bit pointless but on some folding guns there's a catch you engage to stop it folding when in use.
R6demon
Brilliant, thanks guys! Being 5'5 it would need to fold into about 6 pieces for me to fit it in a pocket!! I have pulled out of the sale so thank you all for the advice!!
deershooter
Wouldn't be my first choice at £150 I'm sure wabbitbosher would have something better for about the same money Deershooter
