wandringstar
I would either go for an omega sea or speed, or rolex sub, gmt, datejust or milgauss. or patek calatrava. I think there is only one way with high end watches, and that's up, like classic cars, interest on savings may officially be a thing of the past. keg
Just a paupers opinion but every pr### with a few quid buys a rolex wrongly making classy watches somewhat classless Look at other brands This is not reverse snobbery if I could afford it I'd spend that sort of money on a watch just not a rolex The same applies to most decent watch brands, It's not just limited to Rolex. The behaviour applies to everything that money can buy. Money will never buy taste or class. Question:- Who or what defines taste and class. Possibly for another thread. buze
I don't think you can really consider a watch an 'investment'. The price rise of rolex on all their models is the only trick that allows the second hand prices to be slightly higher than the prices people bought theirs, new. It's completely artificial. Omega has started to do exactly the same, for the same reason. It's also why everyone wants 'in house movement'. By all account, buy a Rolex if you have he spare cash and so on -- also, given the current interest rates, I'd rather have my money on my wrist than in a bank -- however, don't think it's a long term investment! Also, yes, you can also buy a VERY nice watch for under a grand and buy a cool shotgun for the remaining £3k. Slurpy wallnut and lurvely engraving! :-)
wandringstar
the only way to consider watches an investment is if you deal in them, having said that, plenty of people bought rolexes and omegas 5 years ago and the watch has given a return when sold. maybe if you went out and bought ten silver pigeons brand new, dident touch them, left them in the wrapper for ten years and sold them as unfired guns, you may see a fair profit. Whitebridges
I'd get a second hand Air King with white face and Roman numeral dial https://www.cavourorologi.it/mobile/1/Rolex/air-king/14000M/RO3084 That one is in at E3700, but the lack of a 'date' function might get to you after a while, in which case reach for a steel sub for E5300 I've bought a couple of second hand Rolexes from this place and it's worth a snoop. Mind you I bought when the pound got you 1.4 euros and it's all rather depressing right now. https://www.cavourorologi.it/mobile/. . Burp, they're a couple of mingers. Yuk. I sort of understand what your saying even though I probably would have worded it differently. Whether you love or hate Rolex, the fact remains that their watches are very good and their marketing strategy is even better. There won't be many people on earth who wouldn't have heard of the brand and associate it as a quality product. I think the reason so many "people" do buy Rolex is purely because it's what they know. To the OP, If Rolex is your poison and you want it to be a bit of an investment as well, I would stretch a little more and get a second hand Sub. Or as an alternative the Omega Speedmaster (moonwatch) where you will get some change on the brand new price. Only warning is, watches can be addictive.!! Lloyd90
Hope OP doesn't mind me asking. On my Omega Seamaster 300 (2005) the bracelet is too loose and when I have 1 link removed it's just slightly too tight. I've read online you can buy an after market micro adjustment clasp but can't see where you would get one from. Any ideas gents?

I think mine might have 1 half link, however, it is on the end that connects to the clasp. I was told by the woman in the watch shop that it's connects to the one that's on the clasp and therefore can't be removed. I'll snap a pic ... excuse my hands I'm just back from the gym! Rupert
Working hands? lol. the half should come out and the full go in the clasp, i use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bergeon-6767-F-Spring-Bar-Watch-Bracelet-Fitting-Removing-Tool-Fine-HL6767F-/252021841357?hash=item3aadac1dcd:g:bekAAOSweXhXl26H Failing that remove a full and substitute with a half. I need it to go up a size from what it is at the moment. Luckily I have the full link that was taken out. I guess the woman who told me that half can't be taken out didn't know what she's on about? I normally get the bloke to do it. Is that the only tool you need to adjust the bracelet? If so I'll just do it myself. Also is it specific or can it be used on any watch? Thanks for your help Rupert 👍🏻
Rupert
Its a general tool for all spring bars etc. If you look at the end of the pins they will be plain ended, push fit or slotted, screwfit, buy the suitable tool, A dealer will prob do it for less than the tool cost.My omega is in the safe but will report back tomorrow when i have looked at mine, i took the link out in 2001 so a bit fuzzy. The bloke charges £7.50 which seemed fair to me, (shops in town wanted £28). I've had 3 watches adjusted though, my others are a Seiko 007 and 009. Hopefully all 3 use the same tool? Edit to add: there doesn't appear to be any screw top so assuming they just push through? Edited February 24, 2017 by Lloyd90

Would I need to buy two seperate tools?
Rupert
The toll i highlighted will come with a small fork for spring bars and a pin for push pins, further ends are available and are interchangeable.

m3vert
The debate on if watches are an investment can go on and on, but if you choose the right model, you will make cash through time. I have my name on a waiting list for the new Daytona which is nothing other than an investment, won't wear it and will sell it on. Since you mentioned Rolex (love or hate them) your money is generally safe in a sports steel subby or a GMT ii (if you get good ones). Don't pay over the odds for one as they are easily purchased second hand if you know where to look. If you are not sure who to trust and who not to, use someone that a friend has used before (I am talking about second hand here). I would have no issues buying a used Rolex without paperwork from a reputable dealer but would not go near one from that bloke down the pub!Anyway have a look at this guy and whilst he is based in Edinburgh will ship all over the UK, trusted and reputable bloke. http://edinburghwatchcompany.co.uk/ Good luck but make sure whatever you buy you buy because you like it and want to wear it, not because you think it will make you a few quid down the line.
