pigeon controller
I had call on Thursday from a farmer who had been told by his Agrologist that the pigeons had devastated his rape. They have to say something don't they. Now this field I have shot in the past two weeks and they just lift off and never return. The field has been nitrated and is growing well and most of the plants are between six to nine inches tall and they say that they are eating the buds out which is unlikely. So being the good decoyer that I am I agreed to give him a day on the field. When I arrived it was drizzle and cloudy, there were no birds on the field just fifty plus in the trees on the edge of the field they favour. So I walked them off , set up with six thawed birds including two on the magnet with the wind off my back . After one hour nothing returned except for twenty in the trees opposite side of the field. So pack up and walk to the other side of the field and set up the decoys thirtyfive yards out fron the hide with the wind in my face. After another hour two had returned over my head to the decoys. Now this is a shooting position I hate as birds going away which you have no knowledge of until they appear above you head due to the thick hedge. Eventually the sun broke through the cloud and it encouraged a few more to come to the decoys. Its typical when a dog walker came past and was talking to me I must have had nine or ten birds come over. I had a call from Bunny Blaster who was after some decoys so he came over to the hide and had a few. I packed up at 17.00 and had been set up from 11.00 for a total of twenty birds but I promised him a day and thats what I gave him. Saturday picked up DB at 08.00 and we headed out to a field that DB had seen the day before with a good number of birds on it. Drove straight to the field and they were on it hard a good two hundred plus, magic. Drove to the farm and we were informed that he had three shooters coming today so we could tomorrow if we wanted!!!. So we drove around and could only see birds heading to this farmers rape. We watched the farm next door and they were flighting both edges of his rape but not feeding so we phoned the farmer and set up on the edge of his rape with twelve fresh birds from the day before. The birds were still flighting both edges of the field so DB left the hide and stood on the hedgeline and shot a few. After a hour it all stopped I'd had approx twenty to the decoys and DB about ten to the flightline. We had set up at 11.30, it was now approx13.00 and nothing was moving. We were waiting for the expected shooters to start moving birds to us but it was silent . At 15.00 we heard the first shots and a trickle of birds came to our decoys which increased as they moved around the farm, it was our good fortune that they were walkers not decoyers so they kept the birds on the move as decoyers would have kept them within the farm. It went quiet at 17.00 as they stopped shooting and we managed to pick up one hundred and three birds which was my payback for the previous day. I hope the other shooters managed to get anough birds for themselves as well.

Yes, we anticipated that they would be out in the morning not 15.00 but perhaps they had jobs to do??

There are a few reported on the Book of Face but not sure of dates, that's why I like to use my camera with the date not my phone. Being a Luddite I'm not sure how to put the date on my phone pictures. I'm sure Bunny Blaster can do it remotely?
