Davyo
Going to rip out the kitchen but don't want to go back to the same old boring units. Was thinking along the lines of Catering type base units, the open type with SS work tops.Or getting some one to weld up some 1"X1" square steel for open (with a middle shelf)benches and reclaimed wood (scaffolding boards).Anybody done this, any ideas are welcome. This the sort of thing I'm looking at but in steel with reclaimed scaffolding boards as the shelving.Poss use them for work surface or co Stainless Steel. It's my wife's idea, which I'm more than happy with after having the usual Magnet Kitchen and the like round wanting stupid money for laminate.Just want something functional as we both love cooking so looks ant that important.Oh and no more bashing you head off a wall cabinet door I forgot to shut lol. kyska
I really like that, we went in between with an American 'shaker' style but with open cupboards

Mungler
The probkem with the open cupboard look is that you can never close a door and hide the contents and so you always looking at your general pots, pans and cooking paraphernalia. Also, the contents become susceptible to dust and general kitchen grime. I ripped out a kitchen in a buy to let that had previously been occupied by Chinese tenants for a few years - apart from the fact that the kitchen and the adjoining rooms all smelt like a takeaway, the greasy grime on the top of the cupboards (from just normal circulated cooking air) was indescribable and had got everywhere. There's a reason that kitchens are normally sold with cupboard doors

Wb123
Seems like a good idea to me, would definitely want a good externally venting extractor hood though. The last few places i have lived the hoods just spread grease further around the kitchen.
