stuartyboy
I've bought an old hammer 10 bore with 2 7/8 chambers. I was looking to buy some light cartridges for it to practice with on the clays before using it for the geese and also to allow friends to have a shot. Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere or someone that might be able to supply a few? Failing that, can anyone talk me through the absolute basics of reloading 10 bore 2 7/8" cartridges. I'm a complete novice with reloading. Obviously the gun is held on my SGC as I intend to use it. Thanks for reading!
saddler
Sure there's a good American magazine article on-line on this very thing. It'd be easy to cut down some longer shells for your needs. All you'll really need is an RTO tool for closing them...plus the consumables of course. Look online for old type paper reloading tools. Did have one spare myself but not sure if I've still got it. Donkey
There some light 10 bore loads printed on the ballistic products web site this month a 1 5/8 load in 2 7/8 http://www.ballisticproducts.com/loadoftheweek.htm
stuartyboy
Cheers guys. I've watched a few YouTube videos on reloading the 10 short. Might give it a try with a bit of further guidance. The carriage charge is the killer for buying them as there is no one local reloading them. stuartyboy
It looks simple enough, even for me! Can anyone advise what tools I would need once i buy all the consumables? Biggest problem at the moment is finding a recipe for reloading the short cartridge

Feltwad
Be carefull make sure the gun is nitro if loading nitro powders you will find that a lot of these old hammerguns are only black powder proof . Feltwad
stuartyboy
I've had the gun looked over by my smith and its nitro proofed. Good to go, just need some cartridges or a recipe for them!

stuartyboy
Thanks for your input guys. Dipper, I have Blue Dot powder and Fiocchi 615 (.209 type) primers as well as CCI 209 primers. I just need to order cases and wads from Clay and Game and trim the cases to size. And anything else I need! Any help would be much appreciated. FatFreddysCat
If you just want to practice on clays you could get some 10 to 12g adapters and just use 12g 70mm cartridges. Probably have to buy 3" and cut them down to fit your chambers. Try Guagemates or Little Skeeters.
