alic
Hi I am going shooting overseas and taking my gun with me. Virgin regulations are a locked hard case. My Beretta 2008 model has a hard case (manufacturers) with 3 combination locks- will this be sufficient? does anyone have experience of this they could share?. I will ring virgin as well to be sure . Thanks in advance Alastair Edited April 28, 2017 by alic
TIGHTCHOKE
Rather than asking us what Virgin will accept, consider how valuable your shotgun is and how much protection you should afford it. I used to take my Beretta's overseas in the old strong Beretta ABS cases and occaisionally in aluminium flight cases. Never had a problem. saddler
Peli cases are good but 1. Expensive & 2. HEAVY See what else is out there
Jaymo
From experience your case will be fine- we regularity carry firearms in the hold and I tend to take a peak when do my 'walk around' But like anything that's in the hold it is subject to possible movement and hence a bit of scratching or worst case- getting a heavy suitcase piled on it. As mentioned the Peli storm type cases are excellent- it's what I use for my mine.

oowee
I am on a Virgin flight sunday afternoon and am taking a rifle in a similar case. I am more concerned about what happens at the other end (SA). Apparently I have to collect the rifle outside of the airport building. seeker
Have just arrived in SA ... Re cases I have used the standard Beretta type case without a problem, but added lightweight foam to fill the gaps and make it less compressible. A couple of winds of HD parcel tape around it after airport inspection keeps it together and fingers out. Weight can be your friend and an enemy. I now use the Napier style light case with added foam to make it more solid, plus a couple of luggage straps. At Johannesberg all guns are taken to the Police Licensing unit, thro customs and 50m to your right, for ....licensing. Simple process but make sure your paperwork is spot-on and check the latest requirements ... Great shooting and things are recovering after the drought. JohnfromUK
I have a Peli, but would second that it is both heavy and expensive; the range of sizes is pretty limited and will probably end up with some wasted space. I have one of these - which has the advantage of wheels https://www.waterproof-cases.co.uk/product/peli-storm-im3100-case/ . The plus side is that I do know that my gun is as safe as reasonably possible from handling damage.
