Walker570
I have developed a small loading tool for popping the pellet in the barrel through the trap door type loading bays ... as in the TX200. I have been using the final trial model for about five months now and it works very well, particularly for people like myself with huge sausage fingers and a touch of arthritis. I would like to make up a few to see if they were of interest and Carl at Solware suggests they might just be a seller. I need someone with a CNC machine to knock out an initial batch of blanks. They are made of aluminium and about 2 inches in length. Does anyone know of a company with a machine who would be able to do the work and willing to help? Many thanks in advance. Mice!
Hi walker you might be better off trying find someone with a 3D printer, I work in cnc and I imagine most places wouldn't be able to help on something so small unless you knew them and could get it done as a foreigner, my place gets all materials bought in cut to size nowadays and guessing it would need turning and milling. The stuff they are doing with the 3D scanners these days is really good and even made out of plastic as a prototype it should show if it would work. Been a couple of posts on here about the scanners so a few folk have them. Good luck let me know how you get on Mice!
Walker570
Many thanks. These printers, the material they print is it reasonably hard...plastic ? The piece does not have to be in ally to work, it is just the main body that I have hand made is in ally and could ...I think... be scanned. Anyone got a 3 D printer
Mice!
I would re post asking about scanners, they can scan pretty much anything it will just depend on how they are set up, big business or medical will have all sorts of materials available but guys on here probably just plastic. Have a look on YouTube interesting stuff. Just to make you laugh I'm sat watching a cnc mill, no work on the lathes tonight ☹
Walker570
Thanks Mice. I have had a quick look on Google but all of those doing such work don't give contact details unless you log onto some 'hub' which I am not inclined to do. I have a close friend who is into technical work on motor cycles and have e mailed him to see if he has any contacts. The printing idea is excellent. I had not even given that a thought and the item can be produced in a 'plastic' no problem. Thanks again for your help.
Mice!
Your welcome, chances are I could make what you needed the only problem being where I work we are generally set up for medium to large work so a favour becomes a big job I have read on here about people having scanners I bet you a quid if you offer a stalk on one of your muntjac someone gets it scanned for you 👍
spandit
Look up my thread on cheap Sako magazines. If you can get someone to model it for you then SLS printing in Nylon is pretty affordable
oldypigeonpopper
hello, if they do become a seller as solware put it make sure you have sole rights to your design and idea, if that is how you wish to proceed, people do steal ideas and make them their own patent, there must be 1,000s of air rifles with the bear trap design if that is what your ideas for. Wb123
I have had stuff milled from ebay before. Search and you will find people advertising there. Get a few quotes and away you go. I got a firing pin made up when i couldnt get one off the shelf.
Walker570
Thanks Old Pigeon... Yes, I have someone looking at turning out a few prototypes in 'plastic'. Too expensive to go into the protection deal. I am at that age where I am just happy to pass on the idea to be honest.
buze
Check your local "hackspace", often they have a lab with various tools, and a 3d printer and/or CNC for member's use. They might even help you set yourself up. Alternatively, if you are into these things, you can make your own CNC too; I made one about 3 years ago and I use it a lot more than my 3d printer! Walker570
Thanks buze, but I have had a very kind offer from another member on here to print me some in nylon/plastic which should be much cheaper than going down the CNC route. Appreciate your offer of help.
Mice!
Hope we get a pic once its done, wondering how you went about it, never fancied the tx or similar because of how you load her.
Walker570
I will try to. I'm not into the system of posting photos on here, so may be difficult. I have ten 'prototype blanks being prepared so I can make an assessment of the potential of using 'plastic' rather than aluminium which I have used for the two working units I now have. I watch guys feeding pellets into the barrel of a TX200 and I am jealous because my old arthritic fingers will not get in there but this simple little gismo puts the pellet in the barrel at the same depth every time. It will be a few weeks before I am sure the material will work, if it doesn't I may go back to ally and make them by hand to order . Watch this space
landy george
I can get turning done up to 32mm on a CNC if that helps
fruitloop
is it turning or milling you need doing ?
Walker570
Milling ally bar .... 1/2inch by 3/8 inch and approx 3 inches long to my pattern. It will be interesting to see if the nylon prototypes work. Edited May 25, 2017 by Walker570
Mice!
I can now sort of imagine what you've done to pop the pellet into the breech, will probably be a bit of flex in the nylon but can't see why it wouldn't work
