ditchman
Where i live is the sort of place that is separated from the rest of the world and its ills....and sitting on the mower having a fag and a coffee this morning......i got to thinking...(not a healthy thing for me to partake in ) Back in the 70's in Norwich and parts of "dear old Norfolk"..(..a phrase that Princess Margret was ofter heard to mutter).......there was a spate of flashings in Norwich....the offender was termed by the police as G.P.O. Joe.........sadly i and several other folk knew him, as for a brief period in time i was resident in the YMCA down Bethnal street and GPO Joe used to stay from time to time in the Salvation Army House...and when they were full he would move into the YMCA....(the police at this time did not know this) anyway GPO Joe's M.O. was to put on his sawn off trousers then attatch them in position with sellotape...put on his dirty mac with a very short polo necked jumper on....and off he would go ....to either the GPO telephone boxes (at the bottom of London street...near the old post office) stand and wait around for some old bloom to turn up .............wait until she was courned in the phone box...........then he would move in and catch her eye whilst courned in the box and give her a damn good flashing............................ Well from time to time he used to regail us with his stories....he termed his flahes as "Fainters.....or Frantic's.......and discribed the franctics as "courned bumble bee's in a jam jar.... At the same time only during the winter .....there was another weido operating called the Swaffham Piddler........now his M.O. was different...he used to stand at the end of cues at the bus stops in Swaffham and Dereham (when the clocks went back ....and relieve himself down the backs of the legs of women who wore trousers !!............strange times were afoot in Norfolk... GPO Joe was eventually caught by plain clothes WPC's gaurding (under cover, the phone boxes at the bottom of London street and up buy the city hall opposite the multi storey carpark.................. In court he was asked if he wanted to admit to any other offences........"yes he said"....there was a hushed silence........." i am ............................................................THE SWAFFHAM PIDDLER"..............the EDP reported strangled gasps from the gallery... Today we worry about Jehardy John cutting peoples heads off....Syria.....appling loss of life......Nuclear threat from N Korea.....ISIS....god the list goes on......................... ....do we wonder why some people vote Brexit....to return to a simpler time.... just my thoughts.......... daveboy
Flashing is a gateway crime.....If he hadn't been caught he could have ended up being another Yorkshire Ripper. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/06/flashing_can_lead_to_worse_cri.html
wymberley
My introduction to Norwich was in 1979. Having just driven half way across Europe and coming up the A11 to the roundabout at the top of st Stephens, my very first impression was, 'damn me, Death Race 2000 has arrived early'. oowee
Maybe times are no different, just that we get so much more news these days. We are connected to most or all of what goes on where in the past we only caught snippets.

ferguson_tom
I have recently moved to a small village in suffolk and of course being outsiders we had all the village folk come up and investigate which was actually quite nice to meet a few of them as we seem to have been excepted, one gent in particular is a cracking old boy but is typical suffolk, lived in the village all his life and didnt even know where the macdonalds was in the closest major town.....who doesnt know where the macdonalds is! Anyway we chat regularly and i think to myself it must be nice to be in this perfect little bubble and not give a toss what goes on outside of it, he lives a very content and happy life and his one journey out of the parish is a cruise holiday....of course its on the same boat every year as thats the one he likes (he has never tried any others) As for flashers we were at a steam rally once and there were reports of a naked fiddler in the low loader park, turns out there was actually a bloke sitting starkers on a low loader playing the fiddle! Granett
Cut off uk access to the internet I reckon. Protected us from news of your Swaffham Piddler's contemporary Jihadi Johns back in the 70s,so no reason to think it wouldn't do the same now. Vince Green
Round our way we had a naked jogger who used to run through the woods. Totally harmless, he evaded the police for years. Loads of jokes about him, one lady was allegedly asked what he looked like and she was supposed to have said "I don't know I wasn't looking at his face" Newspaper supposed to have said "Police are trying to find where he hangs out" I don't think he was ever caught (officially), my mate Mike was a copper at the local nick, said they knew who he was but he had been warned off because they didn't actually want to take him court. It definitely was a different time
