bullet1747
House sparrow problems I keep a dozen chickens , over the few months I've seen a few sparrows in the shed my boss txt me this morning telling me to have the day off on rest time , I've just been In the shed to sort chickens out as I've been working silly hours and noticed well over 50 sparrows in the chicken feed , thought I'd got greedy chickens lol Question is what can I do to get these from stealing the feed , just add its the feed we put out for the chickens not the feed in storage
Penelope
Enclose the chickens so the sparrows can't get to the feed. Bigbob
Theres feeders you get a big hopper that hens have to stand on a tread plate to lift the lid handy for feeding out side etc keeps the grub dry and holds a fair bit
kennett
I've just started using a pheasant feeder with a pan, it's low enough that the chickens can eat out of it but it stopped pigeons etc. getting anything other than what is spilt on the floor
figgy
Your going to find it hard to stop sparrows getting some feed. As their endangered just let them continue and buy a bit more feed.

figgy
Don't be a tight Yorkshireman and feed the little spuggy's. It costs me in mixed wild bird seed fat balls peanuts and anything else my wife thinks the birds need. Live and dead mealworms are her favourite treats for the small birds. Think how much good your doing for the local spuggy population. Edited June 10, 2017 by figgy

figgy
Might be worth putting up a seed feeder for the spuggy's, they may then leave the chicken feed alone.
