The shoots round here are struggling to get enough beaters, to many shoots, not enough young people interested in beating !. We had a visit from Spider, a great cause. If one door shut then another one opens , you state you are both members of B A S C and don't mind travelling for your shooting . Have you thought about joining your nearest wildfowling club ? , for a start , B A S C membership is all in with the clubs membership so you wont no longer have to join the main body , most clubs ( ours included ) have a fair bit of pigeon shooting which you can go on some of the perms all year round , there is a gundog section , clay shooting where you can go if you need some practice and a lot of land to go on where the wildfowling take place. As a new member you would be escorted for maybe six times ( some clubs would be more or less ) and once your card have been signed by the different members who take you out , you can then go by yourself on most , if not all the land the members shoot on . P S , You don't have to go wildfowling by being a club member , but have a go , you never know you might take wildfowling up as your chosen sport and have never looked back since joining up. Good luck , Thanks a lot of the suggestion brilliant Would be perfect for me really. I hadn't realised there were many wildfowler clubs around due to my location but seems otherwise. I'm meeting a lad Leicestershire way for a pint over the weekend before we fully agree the terms etc. Just for his peace of mind which I'd want to do in his shoes, and then going from there. He has a perm however only has an air rifle and has a few flight paths over the perm. Lots of rabbits, foxes and woodies from what he's said. Seems a lovely lad and struggled for a year to get this perm and is kind enough to let me join him as it's large enough to share. I'm sure we will get on fine as we seem like minded! This is the perm in question which he quickly marked up for me. russian image forum I also have an offer from an old boy who lives in the village where I grew up as a lad, no idea on his perm but he's taking a lad out this weekend and then promised to take me next weekend. He's taken servers others over the past few weekends. Won't be a regular opportunity, he is just very kind and happy to show new people the ropes and let them put theory into practice. Very Happy with that! What a bloke! Thirdly another lad local to me has several perms and the farmer is combining soon (tbc) so he's also happy to take me along, and we should have something in the next couple of weekes. Think we are going to be walking the course with the combine which really excites me! Finally! Contacted the Newark and District Wildfowlers, David contacted me back and what a genuinely thoroughly nice bloke, ended up speaking for 30 mins over the phone. After speaking he said he'd be happy for me to join so we're going to arrange for him to come for a cuppa so he can bring the members pack etc. And fill all necessary forms! They don't do wildfowling a deal but have permissions on a large amount of land in various places throughout the East Midlands. He did he'd personally come with me to a couple locations, show me the boundaries and do some decoying. Also if I join introduce me to a few members as they have a clay shoot on the 6th Sept. So very happy right now power of social media! Thanks All!! Hopefully I'll get some of my own perms in the near future through the father in laws friends and contacts, would be nice to be able to give offers the same opportunities I've been offered. I spent 4 hours there tonight and got in bad books after saying I'd only be an hour to her indoors!. Got in with a group of lads then another group and then another! Was great fun and some lovely folk there. I ended up shooting: 50 sporting clays 3 x skeet 2 x DTL's Let me know when your about and I'd be happy to shoot with you! marsh man Posted August 18, 2017 Report Share Posted August 18, 2017 I am glad you are getting the first foot on the ladder and hope its not to long before you get your own permissions . One small piece of advice , make sure that whoever takes you out have got the go ahead from the land owner that he can take a stranger with a gun on his land and if and when you get some land of your own to shoot over to ask the land owner if you can take somebody else when you go , although if I had only just got a perm , I wouldn't ask if I can take anyone else till I knew the owner well enough in the first place. Fortunately been enjoying clay pigeon shooting but i'm itching to get out on the field, and try and also get my own perms for myself and my cousin. A bit more door knocking required I think.
