Gully
I'm sorry you found this out the hard way, I've had my suspicions about this guy since he first posted. What with that **** Callofduty posting a load of annoying threads, Daz started around the same time offering everyone his glock blank firer then a BSA lightning. The other troll that appeared today (Benelliollocks or something) made me check back to see if Daz was still doing it. The odd thing was he posted he was moving to Kent just as Callof duty was going on about being new to Kent. Hope you sort it out OK
gibby
Ok here is the version of whats happened. He agreed to buy my air rifle and said he was sending guarenteed cheques could it be sent next day. I said no way i am waiting for cheques to clear. They cleared last thursday so item was packaged up saturday to be collected today and delivered to him tomorrow. I checked my account today and the money had been "corrected" and gone back out my account. So he will be expecting the gun tomorrow. However my dealer stopped transport at 11 p.m last night so goods are on the way back to me, best dealer ever. Lesson learnt the hard way. Just can't wait to see him waking up to fraud squad and police. Gibby

Mungler
I had a client who had £38k "corrected" from their account following a small property deal. A longish story but it's off to the Ombudsman as I type. The only safe way to get paid is cash and to check the notes.
Spaniel
I always thought that once a cheque was cleared it was money in your account, so how can someone get the money back from your account?
Highlander
Ooops but the best way to learn is the hard way (unfortunately). Cheques are NOT to be considered paid just because they have been credited in your account. Ebayers take note! It takes 10 days (I believe) once a cheque has cleared through your account before you can consider it valid. It's something I've had numerous 'conversations' about when selling stuff on ebay 'cause I won't send anything until the 10 days are up and most (almost all) people think I'm joking but the old cliche about 'it takes 3 - 4 days to clear is total b*******! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED only in gullys case too late. Sorry m8.
Gully
Not Me, Gibby. Cheques can be bounced well after the 10 days if fraud is suspected. Foreign cheques can take up to a month to get back to the issuing bank and I've heard of them bouncing after 2 months. Occasionally we get cheques from certain African countries sent to us at work asking for a big order and saying 'ship in 2 weeks when cheque clears' - nice try guys. Gibby, I take it you have his address, where does he live?
Dunkield
I looked through his posts when Gibby first posted this, and he seemed desperate to buy anything, as long as it was £200, even digging up 2 year old posts - very suss... naddan28
Well he has just shot himself right in the foot then! No way will he be getting any invites/help from us local lad, in fact if I see him around anywhere I shoot then I will make it clear to the farmer he is a fraudster. Graham M
I find all this very distressing because I have met some really nice people on these sites and have trusted them with cheques and vice-versa. It makes me a little nervous to think that a gun owner may be a criminal who is willing to defraud other gun owners. G.M.

G.M. Yeah, but if you look at all his previous posts and questions I think alarm bells were going off for a few people. He responded to every advert for a gun by offering his Glock blank firer, a Lightning XL or both. Something screwy there.
gibby
Update on the situation, A big thank you to my dealer who stopped the delivery at 11 p.m last night so the goods have not been delivered and are on the way back for tomorrow. al4x
its a sad state of affairs and I have to say I don't trust cheques at all, pay pal is as bad as that can be argued and put in dispute. Bank Transfers or cash is the only way to deal unless you know and trust the other party

Yes I remember him very well, but simply took him to be an eejit trying to get rid of an unwanted bit of junk. I don’t know how these people have the gall to do this as they must know they can be traced from the address they give. Perhaps they think that they can’t be touched in this day and age where the young criminal is allowed to get away with anything, and because of this they do what they want with a sense if impunity. Mungler
Gibby, Pleased to hear you got the delivered stopped - nice one. As an aside, is this not all the more reason for allowing posting in the for sale section? I believe that is what's known as a slam dunker. Gully
Glad you got it stopped. Now how much are your bank going to charge you for bouncing the cheque? This post of his made me laugh. Most Walter Mitty types think that can not be sussed easily, but often their demented psyche is laid bare in their prolonged writing. This week's "duty divy" will soon be replaced by another and we should extend them all possible oppertunity to expose themselves, especially when members' hard earned is at stake.
