Benthejockey
Following on from Daveo26 making his own shotgun moderator and sat contemplating the meaning of life on the throne this morning a thought came to me. According to my FEO moderators count as a firearm and as far as storing firearms I'm apparently in possession of 10 firearms. It made not a jot of difference to me as we've got an alarm on the house and so when he mentioned the enhanced security he would like for a large number of guns it wasn't a problem. Anyway back to my throne thinking. Why don't rifle manufacturers make rifles with an inbuilt moderator? Similar to a hushpower either a fully moderated barrel which could allow for a longer thinner moderator or a permanent end can type moderator? I like the idea of a full length supressed rifle barrel. I think if I remember rightly they used to do it on sons of guns to AK's.
CharlieT
They do. As an example CZ makes rimfires with an integral moderator, Livens have one advertised on Guntrader.
kennett
Mae/pes used to do the phantom, sort of along these lines. Don't know if it would count as a separate moderator for fac purposes.
saddler
Saw a Chinese made brno .22 copy in Canterbury some years ago that was fully moderated. Only non-US makers would get into this market as moderators are strictly controlled in the US & not as freely available to buy (illegal in some states)
Ultrastu
My fac .25 air rifle has a built in shroud /moderator .its quiet as is and dont need an extra mod on the end . To be fair i dont know why more sporting shotguns aren't moderated .maybe they dont need to be to the extent of a hushpower ,but a small reduction in sound volume would mean no eardefenders needed and would save the eardrums of those who habitually shoot without defenders . Let's be honest there aren't many air rifles for sale these days which dont have a silencer on the end or the provision for one .
Benthejockey
There aren't many rifles shot without a moderator on the end nowadays either really so it could definitely be a big advantage for the uk market.
Daveo26
That's just it, the uk market. I wonder what percent of say CZ Guns come to the uk? Suppressors are expensive in the US but seem to be becoming popular there. Most European shooters don't seem to use moderators. Seems that it's mainly a UK thing,? It's probably not worth the effort to produce a moderated rifle when theres only a small demand. Why are there any unscrew cut rifles available in the UK today....... Never seen any Target Rifles fitted with one. Or military surplus. Or Vintage/Classic. Quite a few others.

Almost ALL the sporting rifles in Scandinavian countries that I've seen were screw cut A lot of the better moderator models are made there (ASE) 2. Demand. welshwarrior
Moderators are also banned in most countries they are only just becoming more available in the US but still not simple to buy like most of their guns.
defender
I've got 2 Parker hale mods just chucking about that came with air rifles and 2 sak mods (17hmr, 22rf) on ticket locked away and a slot for another 22rf mod yet I can go and buy a sak mod to use on my air rifles but not on my rimfires it's a strange carry on.
