Lloyd90
Wanting to upgrade my O/U I have been trying a few different guns lately and will most likely be going for a second hand Beretta. Now here's the thing, I have read that the old model the 682, 686 and some 687 ones are better made guns. I'm hoping to be able to find one with a 3" chamber that is steel proof if needed. I want it for clays, rough and pigeon shooting so a sporter is the way I want to go. Would you rule out newer models and try to find an older gun? I do have a 11-87 that could be used on ducks if needed but not sure if I'd be limited with an older gun? Also I've got a Browning Medalist be up for sale if anyone wants one
TIGHTCHOKE
You are correct in your research, the older guns are far better made. You may find an old Beretta with 3" chambers but it is unlikely. Keep your eyes open for a 682, it was the competition gun of its day, well bulit and should last forever. My mates for a 687 Silver Pigeon, but it's before they went to that Silver Pigeon 1-5 stuff I think, think it's from around 2003, it says 2 3/4 and 3" on the barrels. Not sure if the older ones than that will have them or not ...
winnie&bezza
This was on here a while back but is on GT. I'd be all over that and was tempted myself. https://www.guntrader.uk/guns/shotguns/beretta/over-under/12-gauge/682-gold-170619163608842 Uh not 3'' though. bostonmick
there is much talk of the older beretta's being better, however there is nothing in truth to back this up,also it would seem that some are saying that browning are not the gun they used to be,the first of the 692 range suffered some minor niggles,as have some of the 725 brownings with rust problems,i have had several silver pigeons all bought new and not one of them gave any cause to complain,i only traded them as i moved up to dt10's i still have one pigeon left,
Lloyd90
I've spotted a pair of S687 silver pigeons that I will be speaking to the gunshop about tomorrow. Hopefully this time next week I'll have one sat in my cabinet
motty
Bear in mind that you don't need a steel proofed silver pigeon to be able to shoot steel shells.

Yes mate, I've had some great advice and help off some gents off this site Also I've got a semi auto if I ever need to do duck shoots (got a few lined up) but the majority of the time will only ever need 2 3/4 carts anyways

figgy
Get some pics up when you get them. So what's the specs on them, barrel length multi choke or fixed and grades.
Lloyd90
Both multi choke sporters, one with 28" barrels and one with 30". I'm not sure what grade the wood is on them though. The 30" one certainly looks to have better wood on the pictures online. I will pick them up tomorrow.
