Jaymo
Please allay my frustrations please fellow PW's This morning the wife dragged me to a Brocante which is the French equivalent of a posh car boot sale. She was looking for Art Deco and I was just looking for an escape route.... Anyway, came across some 'wall hangers' of which one was a Damascus barrelled sbs hammer in something like 16guage Slightly rusty barrels in the muzzle area but sure they would have scrubbed up Woodwork seen better days and stock had a metal butt plate too Quite nice engraving and an unusual ( well to me) hinge mechanism in that the foreend wood work was hinged to provide the hinge point. Not only was it a wall hanger but also full capable of still functioning ( prob have used pyrodex or similar) Couldn't see a makers name and he wanted 130 Went back to the stall twice but didn't get it for some reason- love the fact that this was for sale there and several other stands had others Inc a 9mm garden gun Ok, so nothing special except them Frenchies don't believe in SGC's for some things. I don't even know why I'm writing this except its on my mind that I might have missed something nice to add to the collection. Have brought back plenty of 'licenced' firearms on my EFP but not sure how you would get on with a wall hanger that's still in obvious functioning condition? Lloyd90
Pretty sure you can have antiques? I think you can have antique rifles but no annoying, unsure how it would work with a shotgun as you can buy ammo for them with any shotgun cert. theshootist
Was it a muzzle loader?
shaun4860
I hope it wasn't one of the available in France only, rare Holland & Purdey 16g Damascus shotguns, They are worth 100's of thousands even in really poor condition

impala59
Sling swivels because it was owned by a rich French philistine who inlaid his motto in solid gold?😀😀😀
figgy
Worth a goodly sum I'd have thought. Should have bought it, you may regret it for rest of your days.
Jaymo
Quiet now please....... Am not back down until October so should put it to the back of my mind. Did google some images and either way, should have purchased it :-(
bruno22rf
Apparently the 16g was only used by the French Royalty so it most likely belonged to Napoleon who, history tells us, was a keen DTL participant. From your vague description it certainly sounds like the , till now undiscovered, Le Sportif Purdey de Bonaparte.
Jaymo
In that case it wouldn't fit me as he was a tiddly chap supposedly. Now will you all stop winding me up, as I said at the start- kicking myself as even as a wall hanger I reckon 130 euro was ok......
figgy
Damascus 16 bore French aristocrats gun, thin I'd be on my way back on the next ferry.
