Well then guys and girls how's your season going? I've had 3 flights so far for one mallard on this mornings flight followed by a simple retrieve from my apprentice lab. Surely I am not the only one who has been out. So come on people let's hear about your flights whether a shot was fired or not.

one flight so far was quiet some teal and mallard out over the channel in the half light and a single hen mallard dropped in near a navigation light about 200 yards away, some curlew flocks of lapwings and a roe buck stepping out of the reed bed behind us briefly were the highlights, we were heading home 7 am an excellent flight though despite the lack of opportunities.

watching the world wake up in a beautiful place with my son made it all worth wile.

One morning flight so far at lough in n ireland had everything set out decoys etc couple idiots who were shooting a island facing my hide Spoiled the shooting with there UN SPORTSMANSHIP antics taking high shots at ducks in the clouds making to much noise and when they hit a teal after the 3 of them fired 9shots they had no dog went out on there boat Engine Blazing to the HIT duck scared the rest away So wasent happy they were not part of the club im in Im sure you get Punks like this at every wildfowling spot all over the UK

Yesterday morning I walked the dog up the river a bit earlier than I normally do ( around 5.30 ) purely to see if people were out and if there was any shooting going on , yes there were a few people out and no there was very little shooting going on , the weather was next to hopeless for wildfowling , not a breath of wind and misty .

Time I walked up as far as I go it was now just gone six and the odd shot was coming from the marshes next door to the ones I go on , I know from past experience that the pigeons start leaving the wood around that time and are making the way to the wheat stubbles , so I guess that is what they are shooting at .

So another 1st have come and gone and a part of me still want to be part of it , but a bigger part now tell me to give it a miss and after turning out for over fifty first days of the season I can now wait a few more weeks till conditions are more promising and one or two Widgeon and migrants have arrived ,

I hope the ones who did make it enjoyed themselves , regardless weather they fired a shot or if the barrels were kept clean ,

Good Luck everyone for the rest of the season .

Lovely so people were out and about and bringing in a new season even though conditions are far from perfect. Like you marsh man I am looking forward to a bit more weather and the migrant birds turning up.

All the best lads I hope you all have an enjoyable season but most of all a safe one

Had my first ever morning flight of Friday and made a mess of it

had a chance at few ducks but waited for the geese; had a flock of them over my head but got stuck in the mud and miss them :unhappy: i also missed a bunch of teals performing their usual ups and down... I put this down to the change of barrel (from 26" IC to 30" full) and ammunition

Given the amount of geese sitting on the oppsite river bank i went back yesterday but the geese had partially gone and, despite not being shot over the marsh, they decided to fly up river where they were shot friday; i heard a mallard fliying over me at dusk and seen 1 teal a couple of lone geese and one flock coming from the estuary very high... but i shot a woodie so, at least this time i didn't miss anything

A 'flock'??? 😱🙄

First ever flight...we will let you off!

Well done on the doo!

Awkward shooting in the sticky mud, addictive though!

First crack at Wild fowling on Friday morning no shots fired and went out again in the evening but nothing moving conditions weren't ideal but going to have a go again tomorrow evening.

Got to be honest think I got the bug.

Up to my nuts in mud but watching the sun come up and go down priceless...

In stark contrast to the first morning Sunday evening was drizzle interspersed with short warm humid periods of heavy midges, thoroughly miserable much of the time and relieved to see the dark drawing in fast was thinking about making a move and out of the gloom 3 greylag coming up the shore took no chances and gave the closest one both barrels and a prompt retrieve from the springer had me the first of the season.

Out on Saturday, inland geese, but fowl none the less. Using decoys, not of a field that they were feeding on, but in hope of pulling some round for a look. Lots of Greys coming off the gravel pits, but going up the valley apart from one bunch of 50 odd, that looked like they might come our way, but turned off back down the valley.

A while later, 30 odd Canadas came off, but once again, changed direction a couple of hundred yards out and went down the valley to different grounds than the Greys were using. It got quite warm once the sun was, so we packed up at 9am for the long journey home.

Having rejoined my old club, I hope to get out for a couple of evening flights after work, whilst there is still the light to get out in time.

First flight of the year and it was ok.

Full moon and high tide didn't yield much, called a skein of greylag sin over a pal had a couple of shots for nothing to fall. Later as the moon rose a bit three mallard crossed pulled the first two down the the third went wide then came back round from opposite direction to fall to my third cartridge. Some good retrieves by my dog put a smile on my face. Can't wait for my next flight it's a morning flight next.

It's taken me a while to get off the mark this season, as I picked a new pup up last week. But I managed a quick flight this morning, and dropped the tail goose of a small skein about 30yards out.

Here's hoping the apprentice makes the dog his master does :good:

I ventured out morning and evening flights today the weather looking a little more respectable i was quite optimistic, wind and rain ensured no midges which marred the last flight i did. just before 530 duck started to show up and despite a few bunces looking briefly interesting nothing presented a chance of a shot, i stayed out in the rain until 8AM but walked off empty handed to a late breakfast.

Pleasant evening with bright but gusty conditions saw a few feral greys moving around and looked promising for a short time but they moved off inland eventually and with a circling marsh harrier for company periodically over the next two hours and with and some high duck momentarily looking like potential prospects darkness came in and with it the reality of an enjoyable but fruitless flight became apparent. The walk off was disappointing but to be expected in the world of wildfowling .
