kernel gadaffi
Hi all, looking for some advice here, I have the chance to buy a 64 plate Seat Ibiza 3 door 1.2 FR, first registered on 22nd October 2014, it's in fantastic condition, inside and out, only 23,000 miles and priced at £8,500, I knocked £500 off with haggling, it comes with 6 months rent, 2 years servicing, just had a full service and a half tank of fuel. But, I've been doing some checking and according to Parkers guide, it's worth just under £6,000 and my insurance will only pay out £6,500 if it's written off in the first 6 months. I do really like it, but I reckon the price is way too high. What does the team think? Edited October 29, 2017 by kernel gadaffi
Me matt
Hmmm see here. Previous cat D due to door repaint. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302497247922 Slightly more mileage but mich less ££££ We have a Seat Altea freetrack 2.0 tfsi, amazing motor, amazing spec amd build quality. So as a brand I would say they are ok, but becoming more desirable because they are cheaper alternative to a VW. Shop around would be my advice. Red-dot
Rent? If that means road tax it is not transferable. And yes it is overpriced.
kernel gadaffi
I forgot to add, I can only drive an auto/semi auto.
Dave-G
Free servicing is not free - you are paying for it, and for that 'rent' whatever it is. Its a clever ploy to make you feel you are getting something free.
Me matt
Rent? If that means road tax it is not transferable. And yes it is overpriced. A lot of dealers now offer road fund in with the deal, upon purchasing they give you the x amount of £ to cover it. In the case of the 64 reg 1.2 seat I cant see that being much 🤔
Me matt
I forgot to add, I can only drive an auto/semi auto. If it wasn't for thr PC PW brigade.... id say that's well gay 😂 unless theres some medical reason.... like one leg not playing ball. Me matt
You're close Me matt, right leg amputated in March 86. Yep- that really does rule out a manual 😉 Thing to consider is; how common is the auto box for the model your looking at? I know its an additional cost on a standard model but if they didnt make many 1.2 FR's in auto and tbh for looks V's performance I cant see it being a popular order- then you might be paying a premium for a rare option. Pistol p
I deal with cat d damage on these and it shouldnt be too much of a problem. What could be an issue is that these engines can suffer from bore wash from cheap fuel leading to an engine change. BE CAREFUL. I've seen a number of these engines arrive in crates to be changed under warranty if you're lucky enough to be covered.
kernel gadaffi
Well Pistol p, would it be a case of using a premium fuel like Shell, I know some of the Evo's will only work on Optimax.
DanBettin
Be cheeky and haggle more. Tell them the purchase doesn't sit right with you at the moment for the reasons you just shared with us, and see what they can do to sweeten the deal. It's not about ripping the seller off - but I'd agree it's a touch over-priced now, the mileage being the only reason I wouldn't advise to stay away from it. It's particularly low. ferguson_tom
Have a look on autotrader and see what similar cars are up for. It does happen where the market price is higher than the book price and then it comes down to if you are happy to run the risk with the insurance falling short, you could always get gap insurance though for a little bit of piece of mind. Personally i have always found the Parkers guide value to be a bit on the low side hence why they are found in every dealers top drawer so they can be used to screw customers down on a part-ex. Rewulf
I know these are both manuals, but they make yours seem quite expensive. BTW Motorpoint are great to deal with. https://www.motorpoint.co.uk/used-cars/seat/ibiza/options/-derby_mp=on
Twistedsanity
Parkers guide said a Mercedes I went to look at recently was worth 4k less than I have ever seen one sell for or advertised at privately, an items worth is what someone is willing to pay regardless of the price
