winnie&bezza
Morning all, I bought back an AYA 25 yesterday off a mate and a gun which I never should of sold 10 years ago as I shot so well with it. The top lever is to the left and when I take off forend and give the barrels a twist, there is movement. It doesn’t feel sloppy opening and shutting but I feel it needs something. What are the average costs of re-jointing? Cheers

Salopian
dodeer, that is possibly what it could be , but until the gun is correctly examined , none of us know , it may be just a simple case of attention to the locking bolt and could easily be a less than £100 repair. welshwarrior
Simple tighten £75-100. Full rejoint around £300 none of us can tell you what it needs until it’s lokked at.
JJsDad
Not sure where you are in Kent, however you may care to have a word with these gunsmiths: 2 Oast House Cottages, Pilgrims Way, Aylesford, ME20 7DD Tel 01634 867493 AYA guns have a readily replaceable hinge pin and I have corrected slight ammounts of movement by drifting out the pin and rotating it through 180 deg before re-inserting it. Where this fails to bring the barrels back enough a new oversize pin needs turning-up and the action reaming to accept it as an interference fit. However, as others have said, you need a trip to a competent working gunsmith to get an accurate quotation on what needs doing and expected cost. Would a simple repair to picking bolt move the lever back to the right? I’m not up on all that.

winnie&bezza
Gave cottage gun repairs a call this morning and as you lot have said, sounds like rejointing but doesn’t know until smoking it up but budget for £275-300. He said that as I paid £500 for it, by the time I paid that on top it’s probably worth more than the gun so have a think unless you are going to keep it along time. He also said is it a no4 or a best 25 and that you can tell by screws on action. Which is it?
dodeer
Measure the barrels but looks like a 25.
winnie&bezza
Yeah I know it’s a 25 but is it a best model?
Old Boggy
Send an email to AYA in Spain (Carmen) , she will tell you which model and when it was made. OB
AYA117
The Best Quality Box Lock was a completely different model to the 25, you have a standard 25 and it looks to be in very good condition, should be worth what you paid for it plus the repair. That’s what I thought but not an expert. Yeah it’s in good nick. Few songs in stock of course but I will be re-finishing that myself anyway. cheers

Exactly mate. Well he’s 75 and sounded like he knew his stuff. He can’t see why anyone would want 25’’ barrels though. Too much kick and bad re-sale value. He said he works on a lot of AYA’s. 29 minutes ago, steve d said: Thats a lovely gun...worth £300 of anyones money to put right Totally agree. Great minds think alike ?? welshwarrior
To be fair to him 25” barrels are a nightmare to sell at the moment people done want them in Britain. But it’s a very pretty gun and if you like it that’s all that matters and only you can say if it’s worth doing £300 is not a huge sum especially if it’s a keeper. matone
They are but there`s nothing wrong with them,I use a 26" a lot of the time.Short barrels were the thing for many yrs & a lot of stuff has been shot with them ! It`s just a trade mantra that`s trotted out imho ,to sell new guns mostly.......
