Mightymariner
This week I'm not in JDog's good books, in fact he says I am off his Christmas card list. Not my fault he went away just as a drilled field of barley reached fever pitch with pigeons. We had looked at same field on Saturday just as it was being drilled, others nearby which had been drilled, including beans, had some pigeons flitting around but not enough to make it worthwhile setting up. Come the middle of the week I detoured there on my way home from work, sure enough a lot more pigeons were working the fields, and there was enough of a line to make me think it was worth a couple of hours after work the following day. Up I went and slogged out to a spot where I seen most pigeons feeding, a hedge which divided two barley and one bean field. A good westerly was blowing across from left to right and I was facing the direction most birds would hopefully come. I had no idea whether it had been shot but thought it was a good way to end the day anyhow. As soon as I set up I had birds coming up towards me. At first they skirted the area, and then once I had two birds down and pegged out behind me on the beans, the floodgates opened. I don't know what happened or where they came from, but I had a good 90 minutes with birds constantly in the air, many decoying, others flighting past or coming for a look. My position on the top of a slight hill gave me a good vantage point to see them leaving the woods below. There were times when I didn't know which way to look as there were so many birds in the air, and consequently this gave me some 'bird blindness' - failing to shoot anything. Promised heavy showers delivered two soakings (first picture show my position and the clouds on the way), but as soon as the clouds cleared, the pigeons appeared again. I shot till 6pm and picked 30. Of course it should have been more, in fact if JDog had been there I am sure it would have been nearer 70, but I was satisfied given I was only there a couple of hours. If he talks to me again I've promised him there will be more days to come

Not picking up the grass clippings ? a flogging isn’t good enough for you carry on doing things like that and you’re going to turn this country into a third class nation ? Good effort on the pigeons ? thanks for posting all the best of
JDog
.....and now deleted from my list of contacts on my phone. Clodhopper may receive similar treatment if he posts about shooting a decent bag on bean drillings this afternoon. marsh man
That top photo certainly look threatening M M , a very good bag for the time you were there and well done for taking advantage of the situation , well worth leaving off work early Maybe the heavy rain have exposed some of the grain as a reason for pigeon activity ? Clodhopper
I am pleased to see somebody in the locality has managed make a bag, well done. And just to bring a smile to the old Dogs face, I got totally rained off. Over 200 birds on the Beans at 6 pm last night just before I went to work, today heavy rain and birds just sat in the trees watching the world go by. We will have to see if t fairs up tomorrow. pigeon controller
Carpe diem , I'm sure that JDog has broad enough shoulders to shrug off any concerns. Just because he went away and left you the seed to shoot is bad timing on his part . Great report , well done.
Mightymariner
Thanks! I have to make the most of opportunities when they come along! I am sure with this weather they will be drilling most of next month too.
