old'un
it's your fault for not reminding her.
Retsdon
These things happen from time to time, and it'll be all the same this time next year anyway. My philosophy these days is that if nobody's dead or in hospital, never mind it. Just make another plan.
Vince Green
Why is it six months for Abu Dhabi? I thought that the six months thing was only an American thing because of the way their visa system works Edited August 20, 2018 by Vince Green

However my Mum and my 18yr old Son are also travelling, Mum is in early stages of dementia and SO looking forward to the trip, cancelling on her at this stage isn’t an option I am afraid ? Trying to see if Wife can get an emergency appointment for tmrw (she is in passport office at the moment) and hopefully she can travel later this week, so all not totally lost I guess. Non resident visa holders should have 6 months it says. She tried calling their embassy for advice but it’s Eid holidays now and everywhere is closed ? They never make exceptions in these kind of cases anyway. She needs the right document. I thought that the six months thing was only an American thing because of the way their visa system works This doesn't help the OP's issue but the US situation has changed. With a UK passport you can enter the US right up until the last day of validity and your passport will allow you to return within 6 months. From https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/non-immigrant-visa-faqs/passport-and-travel-documents/ The requirement that a passport is valid for travel for six months beyond the holder’s stay in the United States is waived for certain nationalities, including British Citizens. Some countries have agreements or arrangements with the United States whereby their passports are recognized as valid for return to the country concerned for a period of six months beyond the expiration date specified in the passport. The effect of these agreements or arrangements is to extend the period of validity of the passport for six months beyond the expiration date appearing on the face of the document, for the purposes of INA 212(a)(7)(B)(i)(I). She will travel to the airport with Mum and our Son and see what they say. Either way she’s had to pay £170 for an appointment that’s now non refundable! Worst case is she flies out 24hrs later but hey ho! These things happen I guess ? 36 minutes ago, ditchman said: its your fault for marrying her............. Cheers but sadly UAE seem to be 3months valid passport for Resident visa holders and 6 months without. Seems a bit OTT but a lot of things out here don’t make much sense ? But sadly I have to pay my taxes as not out the country long enough. That said I would rather be home spending my time with the family than saving the tax! No way around it these days unless you want to break the law, I for one don’t fancy a trip to jail for tax evasion to save a few thousand quid a year ? m3vert
Well wee update! Etihad have allowed her to board since she has 5 months left on her passport but have said it is at her risk and will be at the discretion of the immigration officer when she lands!! I hope he uses his Eid kindness to allow her into the country!! Airline said that Emirate flying into Dubai only require 3months valid on a UK passport to travel so all a bit weird since you can go between Dubai and Abu Dhabi without your passport!!! Everything crossed she arrives tonight safe and well :-)
