impala59
Any advice gentlemen? I need to fit a slightly oversized recoil pad. It consists of a black hard plastic layer a white hard layer and a brick red soft, ventilated layer (Remington type) I have seen video of and have successfully done myself, a wooden butt plate with my belt sander. It just seems a bit mad to attack the soft rubber and hard plastic at the same time with the sander. I am looking for a nice finish and worried about how to achieve it. Any pointers gratefully received
Smokersmith
It will work ... just reduce the coarseness as you go ... I finished mine using wet n dry and white spirit. It'll look a lot neater than you imagine.
johnphilip
If you have a sharp scribe , to mark it on the stock . Then with some chalk rub it over it and rub it into the scribe mark will help it stand out a bit .
TIGHTCHOKE
We usually get the cobbler to rub them down for a couple of quid!
figgy
Tightchoke that makes so much sense. They're at it all day long.
impala59
Thank you for the advice, will press on in due course with a little more confidence, and an old mate is in fact a cobbler so will follow up on that piece of sound guidance

TIGHTCHOKE
Not My idea, it was the late Colin Bridge of the Country Way Gun Shop in West Malling that gave me the idea in the last century. But it works well as they are rubbing down heels all day long!
Wingman
Now that is a top tip! Never occurred to me to pop down to Timpsons when I need this doing. Thanks
