Alan J
Would you agree that the license fiasco has created confusion in our community? and if so would this be a solution to put it right ..other than leave the license as is. The woodpigeon is a pest.. rather like the rabbit ,but the rabbit is classed as game under the 1831 "poaching act taking of game" .. So would it not be feasible for the woodpigeon to be classed as the same AS GAME.. its meat is eaten like rabbit. and it would have an open shooting/trap/destruction season which would be agreed with farmers as to the time when crops need protection. This would however …..make the: sporting rights and the shooting of them: the right of the sporting rights owners..ie: syndicates and land ownerestates..they could then give permissions th the pigeon shooter..Just a thought but is it worthwhile ..We all would know where we stand as would the objectors..RSPB and all parties.. Good or Bad ?? Edited June 7, 2019 by Alan J
Lloyd90
It’s already been proposed. It would require a change in law and no MP can be bothered - especially at this current political crisis. Having a closed season is a non-starter mind.
Alan J
WELL AN MP HAS RESPONDED TO THE Natural England refusal .140.000 people have signed a petition .and it has been passed to Micheal GROVE MP secretary of state DEFRA Now He has passed it to his Dept head for solution and this has WAS muted last week to see if it is workable for ALL CONSERNED The secretary of state CAN AND HAS POWERS TO INTRODUCE legislation to be added to the list. ..Also under the 1981 wildlife and countryside act.So it is feasible...some shooters might not though get access to their land as syndicates and some land owners will get first bite and will obviously get extra shooting days in their calendar AND could then charge members extra for the shooting .Will help everyone all round really cept the lone pigeon shooter who might not get permission but it is sadly that we all should have to apply for a GL05..GL05..GH06 Edited June 7, 2019 by Alan J

old'un
Only problem is, it could open the door for pigeon guides and let days.
wymberley
There's a well known saying involving the words "wish" and "careful" that applies here.
clay shooter
let days already exist for all shooting shooting yes it would be better if it was not made expensive.. Through greed etc but could it not be that the syndicates and shoot owners open up the land to allow a local pigeon shooters syndicate to exist...there is a vermin and pest control already but a more local area one would suit local farmers who are at this moment very very worried about this..we all know and support them fully..the veg growers need more help Brexit will mke us have to produce more as imports from the EU will have tariffs on them. Good well placed legal written down words are needed..BUT meanwhile the woodpigeon and his friends are eating there way across the field...'Rome burns .Whilst Nero plays his fiddle ' comes to mind

GingerCat
If we gclass them the same as a rat or grey squirrel it would be solved. They are after all no1 agricultural pest. No more licence and no more bother.
