dazzyboi
its things like this that make me wish there was a liscence for air rifles.. and this would solve what .please. It wouldnt solve gun crime but it will put a divider between people who genuinly keep air rifles to hunt and chavs who own them to make them look well 'ard
digger
You can licence air rifles and it wont make the slightest bit of difference. Banning hand guns resolved nothing at all, gun crime has increased year on year. Making air rifles licenceable ( did I just make up that word?) will be impossible due to the thousands that are already held. Far better to ban immitation fire arms and rubbish toys like full sized BB guns that only sell to chavs and people who wanted to be in the army and have small peckers. Yorkshire Pudding
Your jumping the gun fella's , as it's not been established as to the weapon of use . It has not been released if it was an air weapon or a powder weapon . all the best yis yp
Mungler
How many people die as a result of knives and knife crime? Do we think we should ban knives? Try slicing your toast with a spoon. The answer is not a ban but more and proper policing, better conviction rates, better sentancing guidleines for the Courts and thought out rehabilitation strategy. I have not seen a CCTV camera perform a stop and search yet or pull a car over to check the driver's documentation and have a look in the boot. starlight32
I feel it is the cheap air rifles which are readily on the market. You can buy one of these chinese jobs which scope and silencer with change out of your dole cheque. I would not expect there is many if any at all on this forum who truly hunt with these type of air rifles, other than owning one as an introduction to shooting for a young member of the family. Correct? These are the element of society who buys this type of thing and misuse it in the public domain Correct? So therefore regulate the cheaper market and then those who are serious about using them correctly will be prepared to spend the money. After all you never see any of these urban incidents being carried out with a AIR ARMS410K do you?
Fisherman Mike
What the **** is happening in this god forsaken country, we are now on the brink of Anarchy in some major cities and towns, gun crime at record highs, knife crime at record highs, drug and alcohol related crime at record highs. Some of our streets at night have become war zones for teenage gangs. Where are their parents?, where are the police?, why is nothing being done. Its time for zero tolerance, night-time curfews and much much stiffer penalties for these people and the scum who are producing these kids shouldnt be allowed to breed. I was brought up in relative poverty in a tough Gloucester housing estate but we never resorted to this sort of thing and my father would have beaten the hide off of me had I done so. Kids cant be disciplined in school, they talk to their teachers like dirt, they have no respect for anything or anybody not even their own sort or themselves, this whole country is going down the pan. In Germany and France we are a complete joke !.......Bu**er Global Warming its National Anarchy we need to address and quickly. After all the rhetoric and outpourings of this ilk from our leaders will anything be done???...........dont hold your breath ! If I were 15 years younger I would be out of this dump in a flash. Dr W
Article in The Metro this morning says Record numbers move out of 'frught' Britain Top 10 countries being 1. Australia 2. Spain 3. France 4. New Zealand 5. USA 6. Canada 7.Netherlands 8. United Arab Emirates 9=Germany 9=South Africa I'd be off to New Zealand or Canada in a shot if I could Doesn't it seem strange that as discipline declines so does behaviour and why does no one in power see that. They make it illegal to smack your child or cane kids in school and then wonder why they can't be controlled.

ANPR could be used a lot but because its so effective it clogs up the courts and most people caught are the types who don't attend. as for the shooting they are still calling it a bullet not a pellet so probably a hand gun. What needs to be done is stopping these getting into the country, imposing stiff sentences for being caught with one and even stiffer for using them. Knives need the same treatment punishments for carrying them that the courts actually impose so the scroates know they are going down if they carry them. All this needs more police on the beat and more stop and searches being done

The reason there is low crime in the square mile is actually because it is only populated 9 - 5.30 Mon to Fri by suits. The average flat in the locality is probably £400k upwards and so the chav count in low.
Gully
Looks like the 11 year old was an illegally held pistol, but this one caught my eye: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/6959051.stm. What an awful thing! Someone must have left a loaded and cocked gun around because my 6 year old couldn't possible cock an airgun.
berettaman1
Yes law and order in this country is down the pan, we are being ruled by PC Correct imbeciles, the latest daft order now was on ITV this morning when a spokesman (OOPS SORRY Spokesperson) was telling that prison warders must now call prisoners MR, and knock on their cell doors first before they enter!!! as to just walk in would be against their human rights!! as I have posted before if I was in my 30,s I would emigrate myself. al4x
air rifles are usually only a problem with pretty young kids, rarely are they used to make anyone look hard, mostly for maiming peoples cats breaking windows and reducing the local song bird population, then someone takes pot shots at people and it makes all the papers as if its a sniper with a centrefire. Most of them shouldn't have access to the gun on their own anyway its down to the parents treating airguns like toys. If they buy airguns they should be kept safe and kids should use them under supervision till they can be trusted and having learnt about safe use of them..
