Hi all,

 

Does anyone use a 20b as an all rounder? If you use them fir ducks how do you get on with heavy cartridges?

At normal ranges you do not need heavy cartridges to kill duck.

I use the heavy cartridges in a 12 bore!

Love my little 20 bore can stop pheasant and pigeons at reasonable ranges 28 gram size 5

The last goose I shot was with 25 gram tungsten 5’s from a 20 bore.

A duck isn't much bigger than a pheasant, which I regularly kill with a 28g 7. I am not sure how ducks compare when shooting however, are they more densely feathered or something?

 

I know when using steel you will need to use larger shot size. Sure any of the below would do the job on sensibly ranged birds.

I dont have a 12b but do have 2 x 20 bores 

I shoot along side my mate who has 20 and 12 b  there seems no advantage to the 12 b over the 20 .until you want to go above 32 grms of lead .

But we never have needed to. And both in the 12 and 20 s 28 grm seems the sweet spot for normal decoying .

As for ducks . I dont have enough experience  to share .

32 grm loads are fine in my 20  s/a .but too much in my light weight 20  ou .

You dont need heavy cartridges.25gm 6's for game.28gm 5's for fowl (steel or bismuth)

Or use a 12 bore if you need "heavies"
