wymberley
Shotgun patterns silly, but bullet holes are downright crass stupidity. The link adds further examples: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-55147337
Ultrastu
That looks like someone testing out a few illegally acquired guns . Shot gun with 4 shot perhaps. 9mm pistol ? Probably not local went for a drive out of the hood and found the sign down a quiet lane . I very much doubt that has ANYTHING to do with legally held guns . Ultrastu
I also think there is a third gun on the sign . If you look at the bottom right corner there is a squiggly track of impacts (more can be found over the sign) this looks like a full auto rifle shooting bb s at pretty high speed . This would have to be either a home made gun or something from a different country as I'm not aware of any such gun imported in the UK. Ultrastu
I think it best if you change the title of this thread and not implicate legal shooters
wymberley
A tad naive, I'm afraid. Although I couldn't find it after searching, there's a post on here to the effect that a 2 mile stretch of a local road had every sign peppered. The prevalence is such that there simply just cannot be that many illegal guns in the country. We just have to accept that there's some clowns and also some downright idiots holding arms legally. PS: 15 inches.
TIGHTCHOKE
And "Police said a couple of the shots fully penetrated the sign" Wow what a complete non story!
oscarsdad
Any encampments in the area?

The shot sign has been there for years! Have a close look at the sign and see the pellets. 20 minutes ago, Scully said: This is very local to me: Good backstop! I would think the nearest backstop would be Hartley Quarry or somewhere else up Stainmore. 🙂
strimmer_13
Just up the road. 😂 That road is seriously quiet, and I'm not surprised at all. Again non story. I used to live in Co roscommon, around where I lived they were solely used for zeroing your rifle. On a bog, 7ft in the air so no backstop. Scary stuff. wymberley
Phew, that's a relief! Silly me had an idea that by managing to get that on the BBC for all to see was on someone's 'agenda' and as such another nail hammered home. Good to hear that it's considered nothing more than just high spirits.
