ilovemyheckler
Went out to my car this morning and saw hundreds of these grubs on the drive. Anyone got any idea what they might be? Wondering if they are leatherjacket grubs as our lawn is in a pretty bad state

JDog
Yes it looks like a Leatherjacket caterpillar. Your lawn must be in a real state if hundreds came off it. Treatment against leatherjackets is very simple. Improving your lawn may be more difficult. Edited April 11, 2021 by JDog
Modafinale
Your lawn would have been alive with starlings before their numbers crashed
enfieldspares
You'll have a fine hatch of "daddies" come late summer! If there is any trout fishing close near get tying your "daddies" in preparation.
ditchman
one of my neighbors had that infestation............albeit a small front lawn....sorted the leather jackets then cut all the turf off down to 4" forked it and relaid with a thick turf...if you have bad infestation you are best to start again.............. Mice!
I've never heard of them leaving the lawn like that, is your lawn now that bad that they are heading for your neighbor's lawn?

I accept that many of the effective chemical treatments of the past have been outlawed.
enfieldspares
Water very very heavily that evening and cover with polythene sheeting. The stuff you can blag from anyone in the building trade or if not buy some. Remove the sheeting the next morning. The birds will do the rest of the work for you.
