(i think Some sort of wildlife protection act Thing covers it) does anyone know anything about this. ;)

Bakiel Boy is incorrect.

The 1954 Act places Crows (carrion) and Crows (hooded) together with Jackdaws into The Second Schedule of part II "Wild birds which may be killed or taken at any time by authorized persons"

Much legislation has been passed since then, but the position of crows remains the substantially same, you can lawfully kill or take them at any time.

If kept in captivity you obviously have a humane duty to ensure their well being. This duty is given legal weight in the provisions made for Larsen traps for instance.

I kept a jackdaw as a kid; amusing little beast.

Regards

Eug

All of the crow family are super intelligent and easy to tame at an early age.

When I was a lad I had 3 Daws, 2 Mags, 1 Crow and a Jay ( Not all at the same time of course)

I had the Jay for 5 Years and it was the smartest bird you could imagine, it used to follow me to the school bus stop and perch on the roof and a couple of times it even flew behind the school bus for 3 miles.

I ended up having to shut it up in the mornings. I kept ornamental pigeons at the time and the Jay would sit on the roof of the house when they were gritting and watch for cats. If he saw one he would make a real din.

The magpies were quite easy to train and had quite a interesting vocabulary. They slept in a box at the back end of the pigeon coup and when they left after 3 years and went semi wild I cleaned it out and found all manner of things in the nest. From ring pulls & bottle tops to a silver charm bracelet and a condom wrapper!

Jackdaws can be taught simple words of communication.

My Jay was killed by one of next doors ailing cats which I subsequently took under my protection, the concientious cat lover that I am. When it died a few days later I felt a great releif that I had been able to eliminate its suffering.

Yes I suppose it would go against my name but o well i Did not have the idea when I made this account up,

I suppose the best way 2 get a crow when young would be to clime up to a nest and take a chick. Any other ideas on how 2 get 1?

The reason I was going for a crow was that they tame more easy, you see we had a crow in a Larson trap and over about 4 months it was so tame by the end you could open up the top without it flying away and feed it by hand, but I have found that magpies seem not to tame so well if they are older.

I suppose the nearest thing to rising wood pigeons would be a pigeon fancier who races them, but I have never seen the attraction of that for some reason ;) . When I get my crow I think I will make a type of kennel for it, we have an old 1 down the bottom of our garden. I can then take it out for walks
