hodge911
Following on from my opinel re handle in buffalo horn I remembered that back in 2014 I bought a blank off a lad on here (I think) and another member (peter-peter) sent me some wood for the handle . So I dug it out and made a start on it It's contoured to the blade handle . Still needs a fair bit of fettling to shape to hand but it's getting there

hodge911
Can anyone of you nice chaps shine a light on how to "finish" the handle ? I've got it shaped and sanded from 120 grit through 240grit to 600 then 1200 1500 2000 finish with 2500 . So next do I put it on buffer wheel or use an oil . If oil what would be best .. Unfortunately I have no idea what the wood Is .
hodge911
Update ., I've hunted out the thread in which forum member peter-peter sent me the wood and it's african bubinga . Or do I use a wax

Gordon R
The finish looks a whole lot deeper than before and better for it. Never mind first attempt - excellent.
hodge911
All that's left to do is sharpen it on my new toy ... A scheppach tiger 2000 whetstone sharpener Quite happy with it as mentioned it's my 1st attempt . I didn't make the blank but I'm considering having a go I just need to get more info on how the harden the metal once shaped . I've seen some online supplier's that sell flat stock ready for shaping ect . So it looks like I'm going to be a YouTube addict for a while Edited September 26, 2021 by hodge911
