Lancs Lad
Looks like some *** has been shooting swans..... 28 found in a shallow grave. Headder read "SNIPERS KILL SWANS"....or words to that effect.............. RSPB involved, aparently place is used for shooting and gun shots were heard at the lake over the weekend. No comments on what was used but if some idiot deserves a good kicking.

dazza
I don't think an asbo teen would bother to bury them
Hunter
I don't think an asbo teen would bother to bury them Neither kill 28 swans. Takes a bit of firepower to do that job.

dustyfox
Swans are the most recognised bird on the water to the non shooting community. It must of been some foreigner who does not know the shooting code or some gypsy

Evil Elvis
Scummy sensationalist reporting....wheres the evidence they were shot? an rspb...essentially an anti....said it looked like they had been shot....proof? Why waste all that meat?
tulkyuk
This is a quote from the article - The spokesman went on: “At certain times it’s legal to shoot some waterfowl. The lake is used for shoots and gunshots were heard over the weekend". RSPB trying to make the general public think that all Waterfowl shooting including ducks, geese, etc is not allowed at this time of year. Damn Anti shooting idiots at work again

al4x
its very strange, were it foreigners you would expect them removed and eaten. On the other hand its not a normal sporting shooter as even the biggest mistake you could imagine would be to shoot one instead of a goose and not 28! and thats pretty far fetched. Kids with air guns wouldn't have burried them, so the only other unlikely scenario is someone poisoned them and they were found and burried but it does beg the big question of why, unless it was accidental poisoning from something like a spillage of seed corn which killed them then some one did the burrying. I can't help but think there must be an explanation as it doesn't follow any logic
Lancs Lad
Dont think poisoning would be that quick.....and to kill em all off at the same time,,,assume that you would have sickly swans...
Cranfield
It would be interesting to see if there is a Post Mortem on any of the birds, to clearly establish the cause of death. That many birds dead in one place suggests poisoning, probably accidental. I can't believe that all 28 of the swans were deaf and stupid and sat there while somebody shot them all. I can't help but think there must be an explanation as it doesn't follow any logic I believe that the above is the most likely explanation, anyone opening up with a gun would see a rapid exit of the swans. unless of course someone with a silenced Air/ or subsonic .22 rifle opened up. plus if they were shot then surely a lot would be off from dry land, and no one would hang about hoping the breeze would bring them into land! Hhmmm like to see the results of their deaths, as al4x says could be a mistake of landowner or farmer who is trying to shift the blame onto shooters! Evil Elvis
:o other unlikely scenario is someone poisoned them and they were found and burried but it does beg the big question of why, Carp syndicate? I know of a lake where the swan rescue released 15, they were a total pain in the ***, and they were "driven" away!!! Some were shot and the rest skedaddled, straight away!! Disclaimer.....it wasnt me and I dont condone the shooting of swans in any way shape or form.
