My old colonel friend (whose knowledge of English guns is unparalled) is looking for a Greener GP trap gun - apparently they were made for the US market - Anyone have one for sale please?

I think the last one I saw advertised for sale was by Mick's Guns down Dartford way. Nice bloke, Mick Shepherd, I bought a rifle from him maybe eight plus years ago. His website is here:

Greener also did a similar looking version of the GP at the front end with a muzzle brake and two screw in chokes. The spare when not in use screwing into the front of the longer forend these has.

Had the job of clearing out a lot of old Greener stuff at Webley's around 1971 .There were some of these chokes and the fittings . I didn't take to much notice other than thinking it was an earlier version of the type of chokes used by Breda . Cant really remember but it did not appeared to be a muzzle break but along similar lines to a Cutt's Compensator. Like so many experimental or forgotten add on chokes they never caught on .

I think this is what he is looking for as the top photo without a rib and second one with a ventilated rib.

Yes. It wasn't, as you say, a muzzle brake as such. I just used that to try and give an idea of what the like looked like. I agree that in fact it was more like a Cutt's and had Cutt's style slots of the upper part yet the screw in chokes were "solid" and had no corresponding slots. When I first say one I do admit I thought that the thing somehow had an under barrel magazine tube! For from distance that is what it looked like! I did briefly own one yet found the changeable choke ability a disadvantage as you couldn't then "aim" the gun with slug like a rifle. It was just easier to get a standard GP and have the choke taken out to 1/4 in the standard barrel. Which I did. So the Multichoke GP got sold. It was an answer to a problem that wasn't really needed I guess. I remember that the chokes were marked with their "sizes".

Here's someone's listing on Gunwatch:

Note the cocking lever is extended?

Actually it wasent extended it was the same lever but just bent differently so rather than the U shape it ran along the grip   They were made in a small numbers as they were aimed mainly at the US market but never really caught on .

Were any made with pistol grip stocks that were not trap guns. The ones I have seen and owned all had straight hand stocks. Did they do some long barrelled wildfowling versions or am I confusing the GP with the Marlin bolt action. One of the famous American shots came to britain, used the Greener GP and wrote enthusiastically about it.
