Conor O'Gorman
So many key issues will be decided by whoever takes power after the general election, there may never have been a bigger day at the ballot box for shooting. Please act now to safeguard the future of shooting by contacting your parliamentary candidates before the general election on 4 July. BASC has created a dedicated page where you can easily identify your candidates and ask them to support the BASC manifesto. https://basc.org.uk/contact-your-parliamentary-candidates/ Please ensure that any replies you receive are forwarded to politics@basc.org.uk

Conor O'Gorman
BASC update. There is a major danger to shooting and conservation during the current election campaign: boredom and apathy among those who shoot and support shooting... https://basc.org.uk/boredom-and-apathy-has-no-place-in-a-general-election/

ShootingEgg
Thank you for your email on behalf of BASC about the conservation and shooting. Our countryside makes up over 90 per cent of our land and adds over £250 billion to our economy in England alone, which is thanks to the hard work and dedication of the nearly 10 million people who call this their home. My ministerial colleagues and I want to see a vibrant working countryside that is enhanced by a biodiverse environment and I am assured that Ministers continue to support businesses in the countryside, with £3.2 billion a year to support farmers, £2.6 billion in the Shared Prosperity Fund, and the additional £110 million of the Rural England Prosperity Fund. I am aware that the Government supports gamebird shooting for all the benefits it brings to individuals, the environment and the rural economy. I recognise that gamekeepers play a valuable role in protecting and enhancing biodiversity through habitat management and predation control and I support the valuable role shooting can provide to the rural economy. Yours sincerely LIAM FOX The Rt Hon Sir Liam Fox
eightlittlebits
Based on the details I can find on Who Can I Vote For? the candidates for North East Hampshire are not actually correct. Only one is showing that contact is available, and the one that can be contacted does not seem to be the candidate for the constituency. I did notice there appeared to be some lag, not all of the candidates in my constituency are up yet and/or have no contact details. To be fair nominations only had to be in on Friday so I presume wherever BASC is pulling the data from will be updated soon.

Mable
@Conor O'Gorman Not all candidates are listed. The BASC website is out of date. No response from emailing BASC Please amend.
Miserableolgit
I contacted all the candidates in my area [SW Norfolk] using the BASC template. To date two have responded, the Reform candidate was upfront in admitting he has been so busy that he had not had chance to come up to speed on the subject but further comments suggest he has an understanding of the matters. The Labour candidate supports shooting and fishing, has personal experience and grasps the importance of both to conservation and the local economy. Will forward same to BASC. Conor O'Gorman
Thanks @jall25 @rimfire4969 @Mable @Miserableolgit for getting involved based on what's online on BASC campaign site. The data is still coming in and being updated across 650 constituencies, which is annoying I know.

We are talking about probably over 4000 candidates details. We may end up doing it piecemeal constituency by constituency if its not sorted soon. udderlyoffroad
Seems little point in emailing your green candidate. They published their manifesto earlier: Quote The Green Party is fundamentally opposed to all blood sports and would campaign to introduce a ban on all hunting in the first year of a new parliament. This includes trophy hunting, trail hunting, where dogs are used to track foxes, and the commercial shooting of game birds. Government subsidies will no longer be given to maintain artificial landscapes designed only for hunting (such as grouse moors). ... Where necessary for ecological reasons, or for animals described as pests, humane culling will be licensed by Natural England and carried out by trained professionals. Related to this will be the prohibition of firearms and lethal weapons except on registered premises. We will also ban the use of lead ammunition and outlaw all forms of snaring. stockybasher
Received this from North West Cambridgeshire Labour candidate: Sam Carling is the Labour candidate for North West Cambridgeshire: Sam Carling<sam4northwestcambs@gmail.com> Wed 12/06/2024 15:44 Thank you for getting in touch with me in my capacity as the Labour candidate for North West Cambridgeshire in the upcoming general election. I am receiving a very large amount of emails in the run-up to the election, and I don't have an office to support me with replies to correspondence, so it is likely to take me a few days to get back to you. As such, I wanted to send this automated response to reassure you that I have received your email. In particular, I am receiving around 75 emails per day from automated campaign websites. I will do my best to respond to these, but due to the sheer volume I will be unable to do so in all cases. I would encourage you to look at my website, samcarling.org, as well as the Labour Party's missions documents at https://labour.org.uk/missions/ to find out more about what I and the Labour Party are standing for. If your email is sending me information rather than asking a specific question, please take it that I will read your email but may not be able to reply as I am prioritising responses to residents in North West Cambridgeshire who are contacting me with queries. Thanks again for getting in touch - I will respond as soon as possible. Best wishes, Sam
