Hi gang.

Just saw a squirrel on my bird feeder. Got rifle out and cocked it squeezed trigger and nothing. Re cocked it still nothing.

I've never liked the 410 cocking system and would trade it in for a 510 but i hardly ever use it.

Obviously my fault so i will have to weigh the pros and cons up for a new rifle. Any thoughts chaps ?.

Hello, On my 410 I realy needed to pull the bolt out / up / down and forward or it would not engage the pellet rod through the mag, If you have not used in a while give it a bit of oomph , Although I used mine a lot from new but on occasions it did need a strip and clean in the loading part and oil the mag,

A new Rifle? - you will be walking a long way to find a better Air Rifle in the real world. These guns are stupidly accurate and even unregulated they will throw 50 pellets within 10fps of each other, as they are so common it's dead easy to find someone to repair them and parts are generally cheap as chips. What exactly is wrong with her - Air leak or a mechanical issue?

Nothing wrong with rifle it's just that i don't like the cocking system. Perhaps if i put a chrome bolt on instead of the ally one

it might make it a bit heavier and easier to pull back.

You can get a T bolt handle for a tenner on the bay of plenty - make it like a straight pull or an over size complete unit for £24 - now let's not hear about getting rid of her again or you'll go over my knee 😀.

Im assuming you're using the preferred thumb on t'other side method? Using just your fingers risks breaking the bolt with undue side pressure as well as being more difficult to get the leverage.

Only problem Ive had is forgetting to close the bolt all the way down on an mpr and getting a blast of air in the face.

Edit

I say risk though Ive never seen it (before Bruno comments 😉

You clearly need a BSA in your life Sam, now before Bruno puts me over his knee 🤣🤣, I found I much preferred the action on my R10 to Micks 410, he however has sold his R10 in favour of the 410.

The side lever does look very nice 😉

My S510 is sidelever and said lever is so smooth that it has slipped off my finger more than once - only 4-5 times in a couple of years but worth mentioning, in comparison the 2 S410's that I shot for many years never suffered the same niggle.

Is it the lever itself that's smooth?

Sure I've seen a knurled biathlon type as a replacement?

The lever is smooth Mice as is the whole cocking action, in fact (and I have read this also) the action is like a Swiss Watch - maybe a bit too smooth? I have seen Biathlon style handles but the problem doesn't really warrant spoiling the lines of the gun IMHO. I read your comment re your R10 against anyone's AA and I can only assume that a temporary loss of sanity has befallen you, have you been over indulging in those Wine Gums again or is the Bromide that we pump into you northerners water having strange effects? 🤣.

Hi gang.

I have just ordered an oversized brass bolt. So when it arrives i will give the shaft a good clean and oiling

and hope it solves my problem. I will let you all know.

                                                                                            Thanks for all your help.
