jack2k8
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of purchasing shotgun cartridges in France or any other EU country using a UK SGC ? Before Brexit I believe that a SGC or FAC holder could get a European firearms pass from your local police that could be used to purchase ammunition in EU countries, but this no longer exists after the UK left the EU and I cant find any clear information online, so just wondering out of curiosity if anyone still purchase ammunition in France as I would like pickup a few boxes of local cartridges including Winchester shells when I am next over there. BobbyH
Do you intend on shooting them in France, or bringing them back to the UK? only asking because you need to be careful about bringing them over due to transport, tunnel and ferry’s etc
rbrowning2
Not done so for several years now, but used to just show SGC to buy cartridges, for section 1 ammunition again just used to show it, then get U.K. customs to write it on to the FAC. The prices became such that in the end it was not beneficial to bother buying in France, given the checks required to transport across the channel. re transport this is the shuttle policy, one slab of cartridges was seen as acceptable and 100 rounds of ammunition. https://www.leshuttle.com/uk-en/legal-information/carriage-of-dangerous-and-hazardous-goods for the Ferry, they never took much notice of 1000 cartridges, but the ferry operators and the port authorities can have different regulations regarding hazardous goods, so you need to look at both. HantsRob
I believe @Old farrier has more issues transporting things on the IoW ferry! (talking of which OF, we are well overdue at least a coffee, if not a shoot! I have missed you, having not seen you in 2024!)
CaptC
Another brexit benefit? I farmed in France, some gun shops would not accept a UK SGC or FAC others would once you got to know them. Being a member of the local chasse opened doors. As to importing back to the UK I never fancied HM Customs pulling the pickup apart.
HantsRob
What's the cost saving, in Decathlon France?
smokingdragon
Prior to Brexit I was in a little hunting shop in a village in the Massif Central and bought some cartridges and no paperwork was asked for! Solid slugs for the local boar were also available. the guy was more interested in marking out his next hunting foray on a map 🙄

From a recent visit Was never able to purchase from Decathlon in the past with a UK SGC or FAC, but I also had a French FFIT licence so all good. But I did try for my own curiosity. My local shop however couldn’t give a monkeys and sold us everything without asking to see anything.
Loki
Hi Concur with Jaymo - local shops around Perigueux just seem to work with 'common sense' (yes there is some around)!. Decathalon didnt have what I was looking for......... L
