Maybe just politicians policy John, they don't have any money that doesn't belong to someone else?

Well - that is true, but the theory is politicians set up the conditions to allow the wealth creators to make money ........ some of which is taxed off to fund Gov't spending.

However Labour seem to want to take/grab existing wealth and discourage/penalise anyone who wants to save/invest/do well from trying to make any more.

Apparently over 745,000 are now in the UK "awaiting asylum".  That is 1% of our population.  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13931281/Britain-illegal-migrant-capital-Europe-Shock-new-study-shows-745-000-asylum-seekers-country-accounting-one-cent-total-population.html

The Gov't never had any plan, method or means to "smash the gangs".    That was an outright lie, told simply to win the election.  As others have said above, the 'gangs' exist, operate and thrive outside our jurisdiction - and very probably keep the local officials where they operate 'on side' with bribes.

In my view the only real long term solution will be to make it very clear those arriving illegally won't (ever) be allowed to stay or receive a generous, comfortable reception - which is what the smuggling gangs tell them whilst taking their money.  The Rwanda scheme was a tiny step that never got beyond planning because (in my view) those UK public bodies charged with operating it - didn't operate it - mainly due to our chronically bad record of them actually doing what the Gov't (and the majority of the UK general public) wants.  However, it was a (very small) step towards making the UK a less attractive destination.

This is going to get a lot worse because other countries who were previously welcoming (e.g. Germany) are having second thoughts on this.

How come Israel is able to process and make a decision on an asylum application in 48 hours?

Whatever the number it's nothing compared to the 100's of thousands of dependents brought here over the last three years. Dependents from India, Pakistan and Nigeria that are here only because the country voted Brexit. If you voted Brexit you have no room for complaint.

What on earth does Brexit have to do with Britain's ridiculous policy of allowing dependent relatives to get visas.

It was going on for years before we ever for voted Brexit
