Dodgy sellers

Since I started making hand turned pens last year, I am always looking at different sites and people making and selling different styles of pens.

This morning I was looking for different pen kits to try, and came across a pen turner advertising her pens on Fleabay.

The seller had only started making pens since January this year, and had a surplus of pens for sale, which she had made, and was eager to sell on at 3 qty pens for £18.

I wasn’t interested in the complete pens and enquired what type of ink refills they take and what make are the pen kits as the pens looked very nice indeed.

The seller returned a message telling me she wasn’t sure what make the pen kits are and didn’t know what ink inserts they accepted, even though she had dozens of these for sale.

And all hand made by her.

Her reply got me thinking, as I have made dozens of different style pens an know exactly what the make is and inserts used.

I did various searches on different sites, and eventually found them on the Temu website

I messaged the seller and asked her if they were hand turned by her, and her reply was yes, and then I told her the exact same pens are for sale on Temu for £3 each, and screenshot the photo to show her.

I received a message back this afternoon, telling me that 95% of the pens are made by her and she has purchased 5%.

Since I contacted her she has removed part of her advert description saying the pens are hand made by her, but still has the description hand made which is misleading.

When I saw the pens, they looked to good to be true, and I can’t buy the pen kits for £6, let alone selling a complete pen for £6.

So I’m still on the lookout for suitable pen kits, to make into pens 👍

This is the photo of her so called hand turned pens, made by her, but supplied by Temu.

I was thinking along similar lines earler. It's so easy to be scammed.

I saw an advert from a fairly new poster. If I was buying from them I would want the produced posted to me and received before payment.

£40 is still a lot of money to be conned out of , I treat a lot of members as friends and the ones I have met have all been decent chaps , when I sell a member a item I now send them a copy of the post office receipt to give them peace of mind even though they never ask for it , deceiving anyone is just something I couldn't do and like you I think everyone is as trustworthy as I am , sadly that is not always the case . :good:

I have quite a lot of kits and blanks that I am going to be selling due to giving up pen turning

Yes, I did view them previously, and I think you had bolt action style pen kits and walnut blanks for sale.

I have just received delivery today of pen kits, and I particularly like the Taylor’s Muirfield TM Delta pen kits, and also Prokraft do a very similar model, which I have used, and find very good quality.

They are very well made, and the plating is very good on them, and haven’t encountered any problems with them, and the pen when completed looks nice and feels good.

I’m not particularly fond of the cigar style pens, and I made a few up when I started, and I found them to be short and chunky, just like me 😁

My mate has just started up, pen turning and I will tell him about your pen kits and blanks 👍

If you like something different that makes a chunky pen, I have a number of Pazazz pen kits from Axminster Tools in gold.

I also have the odd kit or two from Taylor’s Mirfield.

Also have a couple of kits and exotic blanks from Australia.
