Power Banks

I know nothing about them, but I have just ordered one thinking I could use it with my Hi micro Lynx thermal spotter or Mk 1 Alpex, if internal batterys ever runs out on me.

However, I have just read on web that you should not use power banks with thermal spotter, so I assume NV scopes also.

So, can you ? How do they work, do you leave it plugged into device while you are using it via cable ? Or is it just to recharge internal battery of device then remove cable, if the latter how do you know when it's charged ?

Apparently it's a 9,000,000 mAh capacity.

This is the number from the bay

Whatever it says from China will probably be a lie. I cannot see the battery chemistry listed which together with the recharge cycles of more than 500 suggest its not lithium iron. Lithium Iron would have a cycle capacity over 1000 and is less likely to catch fire.

Hello, Before you try, Contact Thomas Jacks from Stratford Upon Avon the Importer, as for the Thermal I was advised by a chap called Bruce who tests night vision not to charge with a power bank but you could ask Hik UK

I have tried this 5/12 v power bank with my Pulsar Axion XM38 thermal spotter and it powered it ok. I cannot say if it charged the battery or not without trying it again.

I had it for use with my 12v screen type night vision, early days.

I am out with the Pulsar on Wednesday and will discharge the on board battery and will then plug it into the bank and see if it then charges the battery or just allows me to use the Spotter without actually charging.

One thing I don't understand, on the one I am buying, part of the advert says 9,000,000 mAh and in the more detailed description it says 20,000 mAh.

Hope they got a good booklet with it.

unless i am wrong good luck getting 9,000 amps out of a power bank battery for one hour.

20 amps for one hour may be.

Well, my power bank was delivered, and wrapped back up to be returned. Between the advert on the bay , the leaflet and printed on the actual item there was 3 different specifications, ranging from 9000000 to 10000 mAh if I understood correctly. It also was slightly scratched and didn't appear new to me.

Tried to contact seller but message was not delivered twice. When I looked for item again it was unavailable and taken off due to violation policy whatever that is.

If you’re after a decent power bank I’d recommend a Ridgemonkey vault c smart, I have the 26950mah variant  (they come in a few different capacities, bigger capacity bigger cost) and have owned it for years, it gets very regular use and still works perfectly. The one I have came with an adapter that takes cigarette lighter chargers which is handy. The block itself has 1x usb c in/out  2x usb 5v 2.5A outlets and 1 x 12v 9A out as well as wireless charging pad on top. The cigarette lighter adapter plugs into the 12v outlet.

The variant I have is between £80 - £100 now, significantly less than I paid when they first came out but well worth the outlay in my opinion.
