Last night I watched a program on the television that followed a group of soldiers that were doing a tour of duty in Helmand Province , I think they were the Welsh Dragons who were constantly fighting the Taliban , I am a pretty hard person and don't often get emotional but watching the solders and there commanding officer telling you what he was up against when they stood on a land mine and how he brought one or two back to life after the shock had nearly killed them really started to affect me , as the tour of duty was coming to a end he mentioned one soldier who was looking forward to see his wife and kiddies in three weeks time , they then had to go out again and the poor chap was blown to pieces , his officer tried in vain to give him heart massage but he only had half his body left , his officer broke down when reporting and I am sure it will affect him for the rest of his life , it was compelling viewing and I will certainly put some more money in this years Poppy appeal .   MM

I also watched this [HELMAND: TOUR OF DUTY. Available on BBC iplayer]

It was very graphic in the descriptions of events, and also brought a tear to my eye 😢 It takes a special type of person to become a member of the Welsh Guards !

I'm no whimp, but not sure if I could handle what they did/went through on that tour 🫣

As you say,,,, compelling viewing !

I don't think you could watch it without being affected to some degree , they all looked very fit and powerful types of blokes , some can get over it but with others they will have nightmares for years to come , some lost limbs and it must put a strain on there marriage and members of there family , very special types of human beings .  :good:   MM

Slightly straying off course again T C , did you see the naval program last night which involved the deployment of H M S Queen Elizabeth sailing around the Indian Ocean , it started off with one of the ships company getting tested positive for Corvid , within a short time they had most of the crew going down with it , the pilots had to take special care as they said if they had lung problems at high altitude it could effect them and there career for the rest of there life, it didn't say if any of the pilots were affected with the decease .    MM

I was in town today and felt saddened I only saw one poppy seller.

I'd normally expect at least a couple around the town and one at the entrance to the supermarket.

Perhaps this is another British tradition that will fade away.
