I don't know what I would do in that situation, but I would expect to be held accountable for my actions.

And would you expect to be instantly suspended from work, sometimes for over 2 years, whilst people who have never,  or are ever likely to be, in that sort of situation, make decisions on your future. Would you expect to be held 'accountable' in a Court, with a possibility of a prison sentence, or in the latest 'accountable' situation, charged and put before a Court, just to prevent more street riots  ?  It has to be remembered that those Officers carrying firearms are still human. Mistakes, although thankfully rare, will continue and errors of judgement will be made. I have taken statements from reliable witnesses of an event, although they ALL describe the exact incident, no two statements are ever identical.  Armed Police Officers carry out stops on almost a daily basis. You will never hear anything about those 'routine' stops solely because the subject is COMPLIENT and follows the instructions given to them. It is when people fail to comply that the situation escalates, sometimes with a tragic ending. I do not believe that those Officers should become 'victims' for doing their job.

How very true.

The only time that I was at the wrong end of shouty, armed police was when I was clearing pigeons from a local farm, and they had been alerted by a "concerned" member of the public.

I obviously immediately laid my gun down, which they checked, and thereafter, they were politeness personified, not even interested in checking my permission letter, which I had proffered.

I did wish that I had been wearing brown trousers, though.

Yes indeed 👍 And no need for any tin hat,,,, IMHO 🫡

The FAO in this said that he "wanted an investigation into his actions", and his entire narrative throughout came across as very professional and indeed humble,,,, IMO.

I've been arrested by armed police . In all honesty,  I really didn't find it particularly alarming ( but thats probably just because im used to being around guns) . I avoided getting shot , by doing as I was told . I really can't see why anyone would try to do it any other way.

Not had your tablets today then  ?   🙄

I don't think that associating with those very high ranking Police Officers is doing you any favours.

They shouldn't become victims but they have to be accountable for their actions just like you and me, if they have an issue with that then they are in the wrong job.

So you think it's Ok for the police to use lethal force because someone doesn't follow their instructions, if that was the case here they would be shooting people every day 🤔

If that's what you took from my post , then I think I've found your problem.

The post said 'Armed Police'  which suggests to me that the Officer was carrying a gun  ?

If you were referring to the Tube job, it was believed he was carrying a bomb.

I was referring to the guy on the train not having a gun not the police that was encountered when out shooting. As for be believing he has a bomb, he didn't.

You said you avoided being shot by doing what you were told, my reading of that it's ok for the police to shoot if people don't do what they are told. As I said if that was the case the police would be shooting people here every day.

And we are back to hindsight.

You know he didn’t have a bomb/gun purely because of hindsight.

The officers involved didn’t have hindsight, they were told he was one of the bombers and was likely planning to kill countless innocent people.

And again I stand by my earlier statement that in their shoes I would have shot him to save innocent lives

:shaun:

We seemed to have hit a roundabout 🤦🙄

Why people are twisting the facts to suit their narrative is beyond me,,, and others 😣

I have retired, I'm now OFF the Magic Merry-go-round   😊

Mind you, I can fully understand how some people get shot  !   😂

You wouldn't have been saving innocent lives, just taking an innocent life. The whole shoot to kill was a nonsense, a simple dead man switch and shooting the individual would have set off a bomb.

The recommended way to stop a bomber from reaching for a switch or releasing a switch was to shoot the head stopping the bombers brain sending the signal to his hands. that is why they went for head shots. They followed their training when faced with what they believed to be an active bomber.
