Every time you have used the gun!

That has tickled me.

I've been told by 2 gunsmiths to not do that every time, as it gives unnecessary wear and tear!
I still clean every time regardless, and will take the hit in 10 years on new ejectors if I have to.

On most O/U's with coil sprung ejectors when you close the gun there is a slot in the side of the action where a lug on the ejector runs in. That slot pulls the ejector inwards towards the barrel face when you close the gun. If the lug wears it upsets the timing of the ejector getting pulled in. It'll pull in late thus the cartridge rubbing the face of the action.

If you cleaned your ejectors every time you shot, you wouldn't have any time to shoot in the first place. 😅 It's a bit like washing the car after every journey.

Once every 500-1000 cartridges mine gets an 'involved' cleaning depending on the season. It's a 694 action so has the little magnetic discs to release the ejectors. I have other guns which need to be disassembled, screws removed etc to get the ejectors out. It's a twice a year job with them.

Can anyone tell me why when I load a cartridge into the bottom barrel, when closing the gun it rubs against the face of the action?

I have tried to capture it in photos.

I’ll give him a look!!

Update for you all….

i have removed the ejector, cleaned it and oiled it and made no difference. It seems that the action isn’t pulling the ejector in all the way enough, thus letting the bottom cartridge rub on the action.
