Got my gun, now for a scope

Hey everyone, I’m really pleased to have got my first gun, a lightly used Reximex Myth, locally and from the pw classifieds.

Now for a scope, primarily going to be shooting rats and squirrels, more rats… I have been looking at the Hawke Vantage 3-9x50 

Is there anything in the £80-150 range that would be worth considering, for a beginner/ratter

I just bought a Hawke 1-4x20 Turkey scope,red or green dot reticule. Try looking on Optics Warehouse site, they have huge selection,and advertise on eBay too. If you put a watch on a scope they usually offer a discount after a couple of days. My scope cost £146 posted,with 2 sets of free mounts.

Hello, There are plenty of good scopes in that range price, If you going to do a lot of ratting your most likely need night vision but you could start with a red torch, For £200 you can get a Sytong  Day/Night Vision scope, If your not wanting to spend to much and if this is your first time with a PCP and want a basic kit , Hawke do a range called Fast Mount with mounts 3x9x40 AO Mildot Reticule £60 Ish  Night Sabre Torch from Ludicrous Lumins , and torch mount, Getting a AO scope you could then go on to a Sytong Night Vision Ad On and use the red torch for spotting

Most rat shooting is done in poor light conditions so go for a scope with a large AO lens ie 50mm, plenty of decent used scopes around , prefer Nikko Stirling myself but each to their ow.

I do like the Hawke Vantage range. I have a 4-16x on my FAC air rifle and a 3-9 x 50 on my GX40. Good VFM. Can often pick up good used examples for a good saving over new on airgunforum once you have made enough posts to get access to the sales section.

in my impatience to get going, I’ve taken the plunge and ordered a 3-9x50 Hawke Vantage AO used off eBay. 
 

Hopefully it will help me get into it as it’s all totally new to me.  I do like the idea of night vision, didn’t realise. I could get it at that price so will definitely consider that for the future.

Hello, Just as a starter look at a Night Sabre Torch in Red, from Ludicrous Lumins and torch mount , The torch will go out many many yards, adjustable beam, and brightness, I find best with Torch on top and use a figure of 8 clamp £10 Ebay, Torch batteries,  flat top 18650 from Torchy Boy 2 for £12  plus he sell a good charger about a fiver, Keep the red glow low enough to see a rat and reticule and your be champion

Hello, Just to say I use Flat top 18650 batteries

 I really like hawke scopes, think all the guns I use have them on.

For a cheap effective nv look at the photon xt. It's what I've been using with great success.

Thanks, I looked at the torch and the sytong, optics warehouse have the rf one for £270 at mo. Not sure I found the right torch but it was about £120 plus the bits and bobs. 
Even though I’ve just bought the scope I’m almost thinking it may have been better to get the sytong. 
One thing I noticed was they said it needs x fps and sub 12 air rifles may struggle. Do you know if that’s true in practice.

Hello, That is not the one, It is the normal torch type called the night sabre and not the alpha

Hello, Best buy for the price and warranty, I have the non LRF in the HT 60 3 - 8 but It is a bit Techy for me, If you get LRF version maybe you could help me set up mine

Optics warehouse have the best price on the lrf, but are out of stock, got to decide whether I wait or just do without….

Id happily share any info I learn, it’s all new to me so I’m starting from the very beginning 👍

I have never found the need for LRF and shoot to point blank range. At night I shoot only out to 200m on .223, I can tell range by the image size and quality close enough. Around the barns with an airgun I have a pretty clear idea of the range on rabbits similar.

Hello, I am with you oowee , i do not see the need for LRF most for Air rifles like i use,

Nor me, one step at a time. And you can never go far wrong with a Hawke scope. By the time you have sighted it in, found the best pellets ( Jumbo Exact are a good starting point) shot hundreds of groups . Learned about drop and elevation at different ranges you will be ready to consider the next stage. And hopefully have shot hundred of rats and squirrels so you will have opinions of your own.

Hello, I do not go much over 20/25 yards and 50/60/75 ft is a good range for rats , Hit then with a 22 Hade and you know there a goner, Zero at 20 yards , anything between 15 and 25 hold over/under is minimal

I havve ordered the non lrf one. 

The Hawke has arrived and I’ve got it mounted. Now. I need some not ******* it down daylight to get it zeroed.

Hello, It looks like a Hawke AO scope so just set the front lens to what range you will be shooting and check hold over/under like my first post, What Sytong did you buy ?? I must say that looks a smart PCP
