Scully
I’m not a wildfowler, but if I was after a warm, 100% waterproof and tough coat I’d opt for something out of the Laksen range. I don’t know the model name of mine, but I’ve had it over 20 years and it’s just starting to show signs of wear now as the lining is worn and starting to come away, but it’s still in use during really cold wet weather both shooting and beating. I have many shooting jackets from Musto, Barbour and Country Covers, but if I know it’s going to be really dire, out comes the Laksen. I also have a pair of Laksen shooting trousers, and once stepped over a low fence the other side of which was bog. That leg went right in up to the groin and I just waited for that mind numbing wet and freezing cold feeling to happen while I tried to extracate myself. It never happened! I had them fastened tightly around my boots via their Velcro fastening, and I was perfectly dry and warm! Can’t recommend Laksen highly enough. Expensive but worth every penny. Edited to add: I can also recommend the CC bib and brace over trousers; barbed wire and briers simply brush off the tough canvas like material. I bought them for lying prone whilst rifle shooting and the Dad ( no longer with us unfortunately ) had a zip fly put in them for me! 👍 Edited November 24 by Scully
Ferretlurcher1970
Due to the rough life a wildfowling coat has. I now use this https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/hunting-jacket-warm-and-waterproof-500-3-in-1-treemetic/_/R-p-328002?mc=8602292&c=camouflage Cheap and good
Krico woodcock
Are the duck dri jackets good? I have their treggings, very good, actually as good as you'll get. But their sales process is 30 years behind times.. only take postal order/ cheque.. Hard to fathom this day and age, was a lad from Northern Ireland taking duck dri stuff in but not anymore. So hard for us boys in eire to get it.
CumbrianWildfowler
I got a Keela Belay Mk 5 (the 4's are very similar) after advice on here from other wildfowlers. I've never had a jacket as warm or as waterproof. The military use them. I got mine from a squaddie. I've had most of the main brands of jacket for game shooting etc. Don't bother with anything else. It will be the best 200 quid you spend. Literally not a drop gets through. I have a Mark 4 Keela parachute for the warmer weather. Highly recommended. Svenandolaf
I use an old Austrian army M65 jacket which is brilliant in all but heavy rain so I got a ridgeline monsoon smock for very wet flights. When I need a new one I will get a Keela Belay as everyone raves about them and as I do 50 or 60 flights per season it’s worth the investment. GADWALL41
For me there is no one jacket solution. I have at least 5 jackets I use over the course of the season . Why well it is usually very mild where I am , so light jkt often wet , rain jkt sometimes cold and wet , lite jkt cobered by 2nd usually goretex jkt. Very Heavy jacket , you get the picture. Im usually in a Sitka jacket I have 2 and the shorter wading jacket is great on most days . Simple light got it one sizr larger fill it out with a fleece as necessary. Or just get a cheaper gortex surplus on e bay you will have a few seasons out of it before you need to re proof it. Horses for courses it is but a new Sitka will not let the rain in , if you are going for Kuiu buy a larger size than you use as they are small sizing , Sitka is on point with great pockets , you get what you pay for. nic Posted Thursday at 07:24 Report Share Posted Thursday at 07:24 when my current jacket wears out, I will get keela. I have worn their kit in the old bill and been well impressed while standing at crashes in the pouring rain for hours on end.
Lloyd90 Posted Friday at 22:39 Report Share Posted Friday at 22:39 I just picked up a Browning camo jacket for about £35 on Vinted, and a set of Rivers West max4 dungarees for similar price. See how they match up but for the money hopefully do the job.
