marsh man
No instructions needed today , I looked it up how to cook a Gammon joint in the slow cooker , dead easy , on low for 6 to 8 hours and to add to the flavor it said it could done in coca cola, I never had any coke , the drink not the drug I am talking about but I did have a bottle of Pear Cider so that is near enough , put the joint on yesterday afternoon and added a cut up Onion , Carrot and Parsnip , it was on low for 6 hours and I warmed it up tonight in the slow cooker while I was doing the veg , the gravy was made from the boiled up cider , verdict , very pleased with the result , the bacon was that tender it just fell to bits , all in all the best tea I have had this year,

THANKS , I have got two more left so the next one I do I will do it in less time and then put it in the oven to Brown over , mind you the bit I ate tonight was that tender you could eat with no teeth in which was ideal as mine new ones are still in the box , no worries as I still had enough of my own ones to carry on as per normal 😛 By the way Simon , What is this new appliance we are already getting excited about We await with baited breath . I have never been frightened to have a go at just about anything , at one time I couldn't afford to pay someone else to do something I might had been able to do myself and although I could now possibly afford to pay someone to do my cooking that isn't really how I work , the first thing I had to learn was how my oven work , even now I don't know what some of the fan signs are for but in life you never stop learning , so it is either learn how to do these fairly basic things or go by the wayside and I am nowhere ready for the latter . With the help from the forum we will get it down to a reasonable standard , my weight is now stabilised and with a bit of luck it will start to go back up rather than on a downward slope . TIGHTCHOKE
MM, perhaps a little "experimentation" with some sauces could be your next task? You might hit the jackpot and enjoy the research.
bruno22rf
Superb job, slow cooking Gammon is the way to go - sauce wise I would try cooking a few slices of onion then adding a white sauce packet mix, goes really well with the meat. amateur
Slow cooking is the very best method for tender meat. I wanted to do a stir-fried Lakhsa last week, but realised that we didn't have any prawns, only had some diced mutton (or alternatively, several joints and whole chickens) in the freezer. 3 hours in the slow cooker with some diced onions, carrots, celery and ginger and the mutton was soft and ready to be stir-fried with the rest of the ingredients, with the cooking liquor and veg suitably blended to add to the curry sauce. It was epic.
