Either I got it right or I was hungry as I left just a little for my four legged friend , had the duck breast in the slow cooker all the afternoon and done the veg for 20 minutes tonight , I still had a piece of the stuffing log so I added a couple of slices of that , the gravy was lovely and I again used the water from the steamer , I didn't do the Apple pie as I still had two small M + S fruit trifle's left so I had one of them , the duck look well done but it was just right as I browned it off and left the skin on , overall it was a nice tea.

Well done MM, looks pretty good from here.  :good:

Will the sprouts last till next Christmas?

Funny you asked that T C , I used the last sprout tonight , the last parsnip , the last two carrots and got one bit of caulie left , what made it slightly better was the duck was the last one I shot , I hope to get at least one more Mallard , this will be the first one in 2025 , at the moment the water on my marshes are frozen over , it should get milder next week and I will do my best to shoot at least one more .:drinks:

I done the duck breast how you suggested , I was going to do it the other way round but I stuck it in the frying pan dinnertime with a cut up onion , turned it over a couple of times and then put all the contents in the slow cooker with some carrots and the half bottle of the Pear cider , you have to make mistakes so you can then get it right the next time .

I have certainly got no intention of doing that Simon, all I really want to do is to learn the basics about cooking and keep within my comfort zone , now I have been by myself for 13 months I didn't realise the amount of work in producing a decent tea , earlier in my married life we bought a microwave as I would do a lot of plastering jobs when I left off work , you couldn't always be home at the time you predicted if you hadn't finished troweling up , so my wife used to put my cooked tea in the micro to warm it up , other times when I was at home she would bring it through to our lounge and I more or less thought it cooked itself , now I know how much work she put in to put that plate full of food on the table , so as we lived well then I want to try and produce a decent meal now , some things are falling into place and then I need to work harder on other things I am stumbling over , it's a bit of a journey , even if we run out of fuel , we will still find a way to complete it .   MM   :drinks:

You are doing well - the meals you picture are good meals, and also varied and healthy.  You also get enjoyment from it - which is also good because there's nothing like enjoying the things that some might see as just daily chores.  Keep up the good work.  Like you, I also use M&S and one thing I now do is make my own food based (loosely) on things I have had from M&S (and others).  I usually start by 'Googling' for a recipe 'on-line', assess whether it is in my capabilities, and proceed from there.  It is also worth noting that things like Jusroll (ready made pastry from supermarkets) are great ways to make pies, pasties etc. without having to make pastry.  Pies freeze really well.
