Thames Valley Police renewal

I thought I would post this as a well done to the above firearms team, when a lot of other forces are getting negative reviews for waiting times. I submitted my fac and shotgun renewal on line on 24.12.24, had my visit from the feo on 15.1.25, and email today to say renewal had been submitted and to expect new certificates in the next 2 weeks. I don't think I've ever had such good service in 35+ years of shooting. Well done TVP.

I’m just down the road from you - did my renewal this time last year and had to wait a couple of months more than you so it’s great to hear that they have caught up 👍🏼

Hmmm,

Not my experience in last 18months......

Having held my ('open') FAC over 40yrs. including larger calibres, renewals have been straight forward due to experienced and sensible FEO's. However, with no change in my circumstances, last renewal TVP tried to prevent me using some of my calibres. It took 15mths for my formal complaint to conclude and revert my conditions back to previous i.e 'open' for all calibres.

Examples - can only use my .270W in Gloucestershire for Boar, as that is the maximum calibre Gloucestershire permit to be used.........

                 - my reloading bench with the necessary equipment, and .270W brass in semi prepped state was not evidence I reloaded my ammunition - where was my relaoding record.....

I hear his FEO does not cover my patch now - according to my deer stalking/hunting friend, who had need to contact him re an error after his renewal (seriel number incorrectly copied over).......yesterday it came to light that a Lanber Shotgun, after renewal, was now listed as a Rizzini......

Hi Tightchoke

Thank you.

When there is no 'evidence' (or proof as evidence is just that - it is not proof) to restrict 'lawfull use' then it is vital to stand up to inappropriate use of Firearms Law by individual FEO's/Licensing Teams incorrect interpretation of Firearms Law and the associated Home Office Guidance, which becomes tainted by their personal opinions and the outcome applied across the board.

L

PS - I was advised in collating my formal complaint that there is a process to appeal inappropriate conditions on Certificates - I had never heard or come across this, and it seems, as far as I am aware from canvassing my friends/stalking cohorts, this is never 'informed' to Certificate holders by Licensing Teams, otherwise I may well have taken this option, to put on record for others.
