gmm243 Posted Wednesday at 19:54 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 19:54 Decided to have gammon for a change tonight. 2kg gammon just about did our family of 4 along with roasties and carrots. I cooked it wrapped in tinfoil then finished it off with a glaze of wholegrain mustard and honey form my own bees. My two lads can eat for Ireland. I was hoping to have some left over for sandwiches tomorrow but that doesn't look likely.

JKD Posted Wednesday at 20:46 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 20:46 Now that does look spot on 👍 You should have sneakily hidden a few thin slices to have for your lunch, I would have 😆

bruno22rf Posted Wednesday at 21:15 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 21:15 Very underrated and a good budget choice is Gammon, I slow cook mine in Cola then serve, as yours, with crispy roasts and carrots but I like to add caramelised onions in a white sauce. Food of the gods, yours looks perfect Sir.
gmm243 Posted Wednesday at 22:29 Author Report Share Posted Wednesday at 22:29 Thank you for all the kind replies. I would usually soak a gammon for a day or so to remove the salt but didn't have a chance with this one. I only bought it on the way home from work. My mum would always cook ours in water ( then add that water to the dogs dry food) but I usually just bake it in tinfoil which is handier and a but quicker. I also think it makes it more moist as nothing can escape the double wrap of foil. There is a small but of a heel left for me tomorrow so at least the sandwiches are guaranteed tomorrow 😅

Ditch, You didnt ask me, but we would sometimes put a good big handfull of sweet meadow hay in with a ham when we boiled it. Brought out a lovely flavour! Lovely looking roast, Gmm!! Lovely looking roast, Gmm!! excellent ..as you say its got to be nice meadow hay........then rolled in brown sugar...fat slit.... and a few cloves stuck in and roasted for a short while and allowed to cool in the pantry......(remove the cloves before eating ...)
