njc110381
That title made me feel for you real badly, little ***! All I can say is take it steady. You seem to be a pretty down to earth lad so I can't see you having any problems. I second Winchesters advice, your main challenge now is to learn to read the other muppets on the road so they don't hit you! It's not something that you learn with an instructor, only experience will help with this one. By all means take your mates and other half out, just remember who's in charge of the car and if anyone suggests you do something silly, make them walk home and they wont suggest it again. You may get a bit of a ribbing for not acting "cool", but the "best" (fastest) driver out of the people I knew when I passed my test is dead so bear that in mind

ME
Another thing is that if you have a girlfriend who drives let her drive when both of yous are going out, I am not saying that girls are better drivers its just that a girl is more likely to get killed as a passenger than a driver. You must be a real hit with the ladies with that kind of patter !

Guest The Outlaw
Doom and gloom awaits. I have never heard such down at the mouth nonsense. Tell you what, why don't you let your dog drive - statistically dog car drivers are never involved in an accident! Lord Geordie
When you buy your new car wait till there is a nice covering of snow and find an empty carpark. Get up to a little speed then start the car into a handbrake turn but just as the back tyres lose grip release the handbrake and try to control the skid!! This gives you quite a good idea of how to try to regain control if you lose traction in bad weather and CAN be fun. Just make sure the carpark is empty of obstructions and people. Also as each car is different to drive spend time on a few quiet industrial roads to get a feel for the car before you hit the open road. Acceleration-braking-cornering etc Oh and well done young Sir
Guest The Outlaw
Treat yourself to a trackday or a skidpan session. Improves your driving skills in a safe instructed way, and its great fun Good advice here mate, I learnt how to "control" a car, racing bangers on dirt. A skid pan is the next best option without getting hurt. Tony This is what I used to do until I retired after becoming a Dad. BIG OUCHES I will get some video of our race track Prestwood, Largest grass/dirt track in the country at one time, and put it on here. We used to race Jag's, Granada's and Cortina's. Great fun with rear wheel drive, to easy with front wheelers. Tony

Hodmedod.one
Good stuff. Get out and about and enjoy it. Crashing is the only way to learn, just do it slowly. So if you have to crash to become a good driver, presumably you have to shoot yourself to become a good shot. Let us all know how you get on Markio

LEFTY478
Well done! Your first trip should be to the bus stop, just outside your college at kicking out time (preferably when it's raining), then just pull up and laugh.
