Markio
I don't put up outside lights for fear of the illumination's alerting Christmas carolers to the presence of the man traps i've installed around the entrance to the front gate. Oh yeah, and they look cack.
Guest The Outlaw
We have plenty of chav's living on the other side of the village that could benefit from a man trap or two. Tony

Ferret Master
I generally end up climbing up our rowan tree and porch to string up a few fairy lights. A couple of years back i was at the to of the rowan tree taking the lights down and I had a large flock of waxwings land all around me to eat the berries. :yp: FM
blackthorn
definitely not the outside, the inside will be tastefully decorated by the wife, daughter and granddaughter, whilst the other daughter nips up the grave yard for the wreath for the front door
Pedro
Can't stand them - just another excuse for B&Q and the like to make more money from parents egged on by over hyped kids. We have a tree in the living room which will go up a week on saturday and Mrs P. does some "arty" stuff with the old holly and ivy. The nicest thing she does is to pin all the cards to a branch of cut hazel which is suspended on the wall in the conservatory - looks ace! I drive through a village called Abridge, in between Chigwell and Ongar on the way to and from work and in past years it's been quite tastefully done. NOT this year They've gone bananas competing with each other and the light pollution must equal that of Birmingham It's quite an affluent area, but with no taste, (loads of mock Georgian pillars and lions on gate posts), so you can guess what it looks like. Each to their own. P.
death from below
PW members - Most are a bunch of Scrooge McDucks looking at these postings......I may sound paranoid here but I think it is just another stealth way of watering down and preventing us as a nation from celebrating Crimbo. Admittedly many do go over the top with lights but so what.....a bit of colour for once....I am the first one in my street to put lights up(just one set in the bushses outside in the front garden) and it was worth it to see the delight my little 'un got from seeing the flashing lights....no one else has any lights up because they are a bunch of miserable ****(took my 4 year old trick or treating and only two of my neighbours actually answered the door- miserable ****). Lets take a leaf out of the yanks book and openly celebrate - all these left wing councils trying to stop people enjooying traditional holidays whilst openly over the top promoting, lets say, imported periods of celebration from countries whose traditions have nothing whatsoever to do with ours. Hang up the lights - hang 'em high and bright and if you don't like it, become a jehovah.
Dunkield
I see what you are saying DfB, but we all have our own way of celebrating. Some people even try to bring religion into it For me, it is 2 weeks off work with friends and family (just a little bit) to try and break all previous eating and drinking records
